Such a powerful book and important topic. My mom never lived to see me become a mother. And, I never knew my grandparents. So, in a way, you don't miss what you didn't have, but I'm so grateful that at least my son has cultivated a relationship with my dad. Though, since my dad is elderly and health-challenged, he's not able to do much with my son(wish he could teach him baseball...he was quite a slugger in his time), but at least he is a presence in his life.
I must admit that I'm envious of those families that have grandparents, even both sets of grandparents, available to spend qualityl time with their kids. They are hugely lucky!
