Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, Rev. Al Sharpton On Guns For Cash Program

cashforguns1217.jpg

On Saturday, December 18, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly will join with the Rev. Al Sharpton in hosting an NYPD/National Action Network 'Cash for Guns' drive at two Harlem churches, at which members of the public can anonymously turn in working guns for $200; up to $600 in cash (bank cards).

The event is the first with NAN but the 10th the Department has held since 2008 in partnership with city churches. It has been tremendously successful in helping to address the blight of illegal guns on city streets - nearly 6,200 guns have been turned in by the public, among them Uzis, AK-47s and pink-colored 9mms, as were collected this past Saturday in Brooklyn.
