DailyCandy.com's What's Hot For 2011

From fashion to food and all the finer things, DailyCandy.com kept us in the know in 2010. And with a new year comes new trends. DailyCandy.com's editor-at-large Dannielle Kyrillos was here with what 2011 has in store.
Trend #1: International influence in accessories and fashion trucks
Internationally sourced accessories from The Styliner, Joey Wolffer’s potato chip truck-turned-mobile boutique.
Trend #2: Global comfort food at Marcus Samuelsson’s brand new Red Rooster in Harlem
Trend #3: Japanese crafting
Add this “happy tape,” made from Japanese washi paper, to any project, envelope, letter…really anything, and your world will be more stylish.
Trend #4: Health and well-being, especially after all that holiday excess!
Deer Stop integrative wellness center. Julia Frodahl’s industrial oasis, on the top floor of a Williamsburg apartment building. Equal parts yoga studio, greenhouse, and village healing hut, her radiant space hosts restorative individual and group sessions. The experienced teacher (who moonlights in a seven-piece mini orchestra) takes an integrative wellness approach: customized yoga classes, Reiki treatments, and nutritional counseling are supplemented by more out-there services such as nature-based mapping of the psyche (we’ll let her explain that one) and hand-blended tinctures, infusions, and elixirs. Deer Stop, 455 Grand Street, between Borinquen Place and Keap Street, suite 3, Williamsburg (718-809-4685 or thisiswherethedeerstop.org).
Trend #5: Gourmet bar snacks
Ovenly is a creative kitchen that makes delicious sweets and treats, but what we love most are their heavenly bar snacks. They take special orders, and you can find them at Brooklyneer on W. Houston St.
• Spicy bacon caramel corn
• Curried roasted cashews
• Maple thyme pecans
• Malted barley soft pretzels
• Peppery pistachio sesame brittle
• Honey-almond caramel corn
• Bacon fat-washed Old Bay (TM) peanuts
Trend #6: Extra-special salt from exotic locations, and learning more about salt
At newly opened The Meadow, glass jars brim with a rainbow of exotic crystals like French sel gris, pink Himalayan blocks, and Vietnamese and Djibouti pearls. No idea what to do with Brazilian sal grosso? Attend a tasting, cooking class, or salt pairing to learn where to sprinkle it. The Meadow, 523 Hudson Street, between Charles and West 10th Streets (212-645-4633 or atthemeadow.com).
