Paul and Mira Sorvino Talk About Type 2 Diabetes

Nearly 24 million Americans are living with diabetes and one of them is a familiar face. Actor Paul Sorvino was diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes in 2006, and with the support of his daughter Mira, he's successfully managing the disease.
The Sorvino's, have teamed up with Sanofi-Aventis US, to launch "Diabetes Co-Stars" -- a program, designed to help educate people living with diabetes and those who support them.
Mira recalled the event that signaled the urgency of her father's condition. It was a meal she shared with her dad soon after the birth of her third child, Holden Paul Backus, in 2009. Father and daughter had each polished off a big plate of the Neapolitan bean and noodle dish called pasta fazool when Paul slumped forward, listless, as he had so many times before the diabetes diagnosis.
Dubbed "Diabetes Co-Stars," the father and daughter share information, recipes and personal experience, in partnership with Sanofi-Aventis, the maker of the Lantus SoloSTAR insulin pen that Paul uses daily to keep his blood sugar in check.
