Money-Savings Secrets For Electronics Shoppers

As the holiday shopping season gets underway, electronics shoppers are keeping their eyes peeled for the best bargain. But getting the most for your money goes beyond the price tag.
Whether it's a TV, computer or digital music player, saving money can be just a click away. DealTaker.com offers nine money-saving secrets that all shoppers need to know.
1. Buying on line may be better. Web sites like DealTaker.com and Savings.com offer thousands of new coupons daily.
2. Be careful of pricey add-ons. High priced accessories like HMDI cables can be twice as much at electronics stores than at stores that specialize in cables on line.
3. Don't go for the extended warranty. Many products are well-made and reliable so an extended warranty is not necessary. Also be aware that retailers like Costco extend manufacturer's warranty on Tv's and computers up to 2 years from the purchase date, without any cost to the buyer.
4. Consider refurbished and pre-owned items. Most of these items have been returned, restored and inspected. You can save as much as 40 - 50% off the original price.
5. Recognize what each retailer offers. Decide on your shopping priorities and head to retailer that best suits your needs. Warehouse stores are best for price, but scored low on service and selection. Mass merchandisers scored in the mid-range on price and have lower shopping ease and selection. Independent electronic retailers scored high on service, but below average on price satisfaction.
6. Don't buy solely on specs. If you purchase something thats a 1080 P, but doesn't have a good contrast resolution, the TV is not going to be very good. But if you buy something that has both, you're going to pay a little bit more, but you're going to get more value because you will have a TV that lasts longer and gives you exactly what you're looking for.
7. The best prices come early in the season. Also check if a retailer offers a price guarantee that entitles you to a refund.
8. You might not need top performance. If you're using a laptop for the internet and word processing, then spending the extra money on more RAM doesn't make sense. Go for a netbook.
9. Ask for a lower price. A recent Consumer Reports survey found that about 1/3 of shoppers tried to negotiate the price of an item. Most succeeded at least once in their efforts.
