'The Man Who Never Returned' Focuses On NYC-Based Mystery

man1101.jpg

For New York City history and mystery buffs, The Man Who Never Returned is required reading! It centers on one of the most enduring unsolved mysteries of New York City: the 1930 disappearance of NYS Supreme Court Justice Joseph Force Crater ("Judge Crater, call your office" was a long-running gag in Gotham). Judge Crater had dinner with two companions at the long-gone Billy Haas' Chophouse on West 45th Street on a summer night in August 1930, got into a cab and was never seen again!

Historian/novelist Peter Quinn has written a brilliant NYC-based page-turner that presents a shocking and sinister solution to the Judge Crater mystery once and for all!

Quinn served as speech-writer to two New York governors (Hugh Carey and Mario Cuomo). He then went on to be speech-writer for five successive chairmen of Time Warner, and he was tapped by Martin Scorsese to be an historical consultant on the film Gangs of New York. Quinn also has contributed to several PBS specials about Irish immigration in America and won an Emmy for his documentary McSorley's New York.

For more information about The Man Who Never Returned, visit the author's website at www.newyorkpaddy.com.

• "STOP & SHOP FRUIT SWIRLS VS. KELLOGG'S FROOT LOOPS."
(Tie) Stop & Shop were just as crispy at Froot Loops and has a similar artificial fruit flavor that kids might like, But our testers found that both cereals had an off-putting aroma reminiscent of lemon-scented household cleaner. They also found that the Froot Loops left a vitaminlike aftertaste and that the Fruit Swirls tasted slightly state. Store-brand savings of about 30%

Your cell phone, deodorant and pillow. You may think they're innocent everyday items, but they could actually be harming your skin. Dr. David Bank, Director of the Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic & Laser Surgery in Mt. Kisco, NY was here to explain.

• 2-In-1 Shampoos and Conditioners
The emulsifiers and in shampoo/conditioner-in-one products keeps the shampoo and conditioner from separating in the bottle. These emulsifiers can block pores causing pimples.

• Deodorants and Antiperspirants
These products work to fight odor and reduce sweat and because they are water resistant they are hard to wash off and block the sweat glands. Clogging the pores and sweat may cause painful ingrown hairs.

Use Your Body As A Controller In New Kinect For Xbox 360

xbox1104.jpeg

Kinect for Xbox 360 brings games and entertainment to life in extraordinary new ways without using a controller. Imagine controlling movies and music with the wave of a hand or the sound of your voice. With Kinect, technology evaporates, letting the natural magic in all of us shine.

Controller-free gaming means full body play. Kinect responds to how you move. So if you have to kick, then kick. If you have to jump, then jump. You already know how to play. All you have to do now is to get off the couch.

Once you wave your hand to activate the sensor, your Kinect will be able to recognize you and access your Avatar. Then you’ll be able to jump in and out of different games, and show off and share your moves.

Kinect uses advanced entertainment technology to respond to the sound of your voice. Just say “Xbox” to reveal a series of voice commands. So you’ll be able to control HD movies with the sound of your voice—no remote required.

For more information, visit www.xbox.com.

Liberty Mutual Campaign Promotes Senior Driving Safety

driving1104.jpg

Liberty Mutual's National Conversation Drive is coming to Manhattan! The initiative is aimed at getting family members -- specifically those from the Baby Boomer generation -- to talk to their elderly parents about what could be an emotionally-charged issue: driving safely, and what to do once the effects of aging greatly impair their abilities behind the wheel.

Just last year, the company commissioned a poll which found - perhaps unsurprisingly - that adult children refused to have these talks with their parents for fear of embarrassing or angering them. However - and perhaps surprisingly - the same poll found that parents actually expected their children to talk to them about this issue.

4 Bad Habits Costing You A Financial Future

lotto1108.jpg

Are your bad habits costing you a financial future? Addicted to caffeine? Cigarettes? Have trouble walking away from the bad-food buffet? Can't stop playing the lottery? You may be gambling with your financial future. Vera Gibbons of WalletPop.com explains how you may be gambling with your financial future.

• Overeating
Costs over lifetime: $258,000
America isn't healthy: A whopping 2/3 of Americans are either overweight or obese, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. And while these statistics haven't convinced too many people to eat less, exercise more or just add more fruits and vegetables to their diets (In fact, 3 out of 4 Americans will be overweight or obese by 2020), maybe these statistics, which show how significantly poorer you will be, will inspire you: Over a lifetime, obesity costs $4,879 and $2,646 a year for women and men, respectively. Tack on the value of lost life (8-10 years) and it's even more dramatic : $8,365 and $6,518. Plus, you're up against weight discrimination at the office -- this is most prevalent among women. In fact, when white females gain 64 pounds, their wages drop 9%, according to a study by Cornell University.

Penn & Teller Celebrate 10 Years In Las Vegas And "Play Dead" In NYC

pt1109.jpg

They say they're "a couple of eccentric guys who have learned how to do a few cool things." But, after performing together for 35 years, authoring several best-selling books, receiving numerous Emmy nominations and continually selling out shows, it's safe to say magicians Penn & Teller are a lot more dynamic then that! Penn and Teller spoke abotu celebrating 10 years at the Rio Hotel and Casino.

Teller also has a new off-Broadway show called "Play Dead," which explores themes of death, darkness and deception. As the guide for the evening, Todd Robbins draws audiences into an unknown haunted world full of frightful surprises and diabolical laughter. Although very much a theatrical work, it is hardly a typical "play," but rather a dramatic, unnerving thriller - here and now in an "abandoned" theater, illuminated by a single ghostlight - in which audiences test their nerves and face their fears as they are surrounded by ethereal sights, sounds and even touches of the returning dead - all achieved by wry, suspenseful storytelling and uncanny stage illusions.

Wakeup Workout: Lose Weight Like A Guy

wake1115.jpg

Whether it's for sex, sports or getting in shape, men tend to have laser like focus. They're wired to concentrate on a single thing, whereas the female brain evolved to tackle multiple things. When a guy wants to lose weight, he might decide to cut out beer or run sprints-that's his big plan.

But us ladies, we multitask, vowing to nix dessert, go vegan, ban soda, halve portions, hit the gym at dawn…So it's no surprise we fail! It is exhausting. Instead, pick your worst diet habit (bingeing on bread?) and a challenging fitness goal (regular Spin classes?) and attack only those for four weeks.

So we're doing a strength training workout. Strength training, which only about 17% of women do, revs metabolism, torches calories and sculpts sexy muscles. It's so effective, in fact, that you should put cardio on the back burner and make strength training 60% of your routine-no joke!

Meaghan Murphy, Fitness director of Self Magazine, stopped by to show us some moves.

Dandruff
You'd be amazed at how common this is. I estimate that one out of every ten people have dandruff.
What is your scalp telling you?
First of all, figure out if your dandruff is oily or dry. It might be that you need to be babying your scalp with moisturizing shampoos and conditioners to ease the dryness. If your dandruff is oily, you need to follow a regimen to clarify your scalp.

Paul and Mira Sorvino Talk About Type 2 Diabetes

sorvino1116.jpg

Nearly 24 million Americans are living with diabetes and one of them is a familiar face. Actor Paul Sorvino was diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes in 2006, and with the support of his daughter Mira, he's successfully managing the disease.

The Sorvino's, have teamed up with Sanofi-Aventis US, to launch "Diabetes Co-Stars" -- a program, designed to help educate people living with diabetes and those who support them.

Mira recalled the event that signaled the urgency of her father's condition. It was a meal she shared with her dad soon after the birth of her third child, Holden Paul Backus, in 2009. Father and daughter had each polished off a big plate of the Neapolitan bean and noodle dish called pasta fazool when Paul slumped forward, listless, as he had so many times before the diabetes diagnosis.

Dubbed "Diabetes Co-Stars," the father and daughter share information, recipes and personal experience, in partnership with Sanofi-Aventis, the maker of the Lantus SoloSTAR insulin pen that Paul uses daily to keep his blood sugar in check.

Money-Savings Secrets For Electronics Shoppers

shop1117.jpg

As the holiday shopping season gets underway, electronics shoppers are keeping their eyes peeled for the best bargain. But getting the most for your money goes beyond the price tag.

Whether it's a TV, computer or digital music player, saving money can be just a click away. DealTaker.com offers nine money-saving secrets that all shoppers need to know.

1. Buying on line may be better. Web sites like DealTaker.com and Savings.com offer thousands of new coupons daily.

2. Be careful of pricey add-ons. High priced accessories like HMDI cables can be twice as much at electronics stores than at stores that specialize in cables on line.

3. Don't go for the extended warranty. Many products are well-made and reliable so an extended warranty is not necessary. Also be aware that retailers like Costco extend manufacturer's warranty on Tv's and computers up to 2 years from the purchase date, without any cost to the buyer.

Darius entered treatment at age 5 and was in therapy for about 4 years. When he began treatment Darius was already "shutting down" as a result of his stuttering. He was withdrawing socially and didn't want to acknowledge or work on his stuttering.
