LJ Jones, 10, Seeks Bone Marrow Donor To Treat His Rare Blood Disease

Dr. Steve sat down with 10-year-old LJ Jones, a boy who is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant.
LJ is the first child to be diagnosed with Hypereosinophilic Syndrome, a rare blood disease.
Those suffering from HES have increased levels of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, in their bloodstream. Sufferers typicall show a wide variety of symptoms of other illnesses -- such as colds, the flu or rashes -- which can lead to misdiagnosis.
LJ just discovered that no one in his family is a match. Part of the difficulty to in LJ's search for a donor may be his heritage. He is part African-American, Native American and Latino.
LJ needs the donation from a stranger to win his battle. LJ and his mom Crystal Daniels joined s to talk about their desperate search for a bone marrow match. Shana Melius, co-founder/co-chair of Preserve Our Legacy, Inc. was also on hand to talk about the importance of donating.
A bone marrow donor drive will be held for LJ today from 2pm to 6pm at the NYC Mission Society (646 Lennox Ave. and Malcolm X. Blvd.).
