Keep Yourself Safe At The Workplace

workplace0903.jpg

Just like you think about your safety at home, in the car, you need to think about your safety on the job. You spend at least a third of your day at work. You may think you know your coworkers but you really don't know what people are capable of. Sal Lifrieri was here to start a discussion on how to look out for you safety on the job.

Lifieri says the good thing about the incident at the Discovery Channel building was investigators had a wealth of information to work from. James J. Lee had demonstrated in front of the building in the past, was arrested for it, had a website up with a manifesto.

The problem that you run into in a typical workplace violence situation is that you just dont know, especially if you have an employee with a domestic violence situation at home not making it known to the employee that they are having problems, says Lifrieri. Then what can happen from this the person who the employee may have a restraining order against comes into the workplace and we now have a workplace violence situation on our hands.

What companies need to do now more than ever is these particular situations gets carried out across the nation if you have someone who is sending in letters, actively protesting in front of your facility, you need to monitor that situation.

Companies need to recognize the potential for these situation and to have a plan in place to deal with the potential threat.

1. Understand there is a potential

2. Get advocates and consultants in that have understanding of hostage negotiations, not just general security training.

3. Critical that the advice that you get is solid.

4. Take appropriate steps in training your management and employees.
