Essentials Tips On Lunch Packing and Storing

lunch0826.jpg

The Container Store has great storage ideas--including nifty ways to store your lunch. Whether you're kids are preparing to go back to school or you need something to transport you lunch to work, we're showing off the lunch bags, boxes, thermos BOT, food containers. Nia Reddy from The Container Store was here to help.

The Right Lunch Bag
Choose a durable, reusable lunch bag that's the right size for you and your child. The Insulated Lunch Sack is a great size for elementary-aged kids and the Insulated Lunch Carrier is a little roomier for older kids and adults with bigger appetites. Also, don't be afraid to brighten your lunch by using fun colors and patterns for your lunch bag.

Lunch Is The Most Important Part Of The Day!
Prepare fruit, veggies, salads the night before and last minute additions the morning of such as sandwiches - ensuring everything stays fresh and ready to go. Use smartly designed containers to ensure you will never have a smashed sandwich or soggy lettuce! If you're making multiple lunches, assign everyone a color so no one takes the wrong lunch.

Storing Your Food
Make healthy choices when it's time for a snack…prepare snacks along with your lunch so you're always prepared. You'll make healthier choices when you have the right snacks within easy reach. Keep healthy snacks at hand for midmorning and late afternoon when you normally would turn to a vending machine or a drive through window.

Planning Ahead
Make lunch planning a part of your menu planning for the week - just like you plan your family's dinners. Create a master menu for at least three weeks and you can then rotate your weekly plans for the entire school year - there's no need to reinvent the wheel every week! Encourage feedback from your child or family and adjust your menu accordingly. Insert leftover favorites from the night before to add some variety and surprise.
