Reconsider Clothes You Swore You'd Never Wear

fash0825.jpg

Swore off the latest trends because you thought they'd look horrible on you? Think again! Shape Magazine's Executive Style Director Jacqui Stafford is here to show four women how to stay fashion-forward.

Skinny Jeans
Tank top: RACHEL Rachel Roy ($59; macys.com)
Jacket: RACHEL Rachel Roy ($149; macys.com)
Jeans: BCBGMAXAZRIA ($128; macys.com)

Contrary to popular opinion, women of all sizes and shapes can rock these super-slim-cut jeans. For the most flattering (and confidence boosting) silhouette, juxtapose "jeggings" with a narrow, thigh-grazing top. A waist-nipping jacket creates bombshell curves, while platform peep-toes add extra inches.

Romper
Romper: BCBGeneration ($108; macys.com)
Blazer: BCBGMAXAZRIA ($178; macys.com)

When accessorized properly, there's nothing remotely juvenile about this onesie. Add some statement jewelry-like this super long necklace-and eye-catching heels, and you have a chic and easy alternative to the little black dress.

Leggings
Leggings: Kensie ($38; macys.com)
Tank top: Kensie ($68; macys.com)
Jacket: Kensie ($138; macys.com)

Convinced that leggings are a no-no postpuberty? Not if you team these body-contouring bottoms with a tunic dress that covers your butt and upper thighs. Lend the ensemble additional polish by topping with a slim-cut tailored jacket.

Mini-Skirt
Lucky Brand Mini Skirt ($69.50; macys.com)
Lucky Brand Mini Jacket ($99.00)

Dressing in a single color from head to toe visually elongates your frame, giving a taller, trimmer appearance. Pay attention to the silhouette as well: A skirt with an A-line shape or slight flair will skim over the hips and make thighs seem smaller.
