Cleansing Like Salma Hayek: Get Healthier & 'Hotter' with "Cooler Cleanse"

Our Ojinika Obiekwe checked out the Cooler Cleanse to find out what the buzz was all about. And the brains and body behind it is none other than Oscar nominated actress Salma Hayek. yes, that Salma Hayek.
Co-founded by Hayek and Juice Generation owner Eric Helms - the cleanse consisting of 6 bottles of fresh squeezed juice and vegetables, can be delivered to any zip code in the country and will give you the jumpstart you need to live a better and healthier life.

MY COOLER CLEANSE EXPERIENCE

PRELUDE TO A CLEANSE:
I remember when Eric Helms, founder of Juice Generation, first told me about the Cooler Cleanse; It was about 2yrs ago - October of 2008. He was on our show for a "Super Sips" segment (pretty much healthy drinks that not only taste good but also do your body a lot of good; and i'm not talking about milk). After the segment, Eric was talking to me about "juice Generation", the benefits of juicing and his celeb clients, one of whom is Salma Hayek. He then went on to tell me that He and Salma would be working on a cleanse that consists of fruits and vegetable juices "soon" and they delivered. And speaking of delivering, they now have a service that brings the cooler cleanse straight to your doorstep, where ever you are in the country.
I did a piece on the morning show about the "Cooler Cleanse" which aired last week and ofcourse I had to try it and it's not just because Salma Hayek does the cleanse: Ofcourse I have other reasons, I'm not that shallow, I honestly decided to try it out because 1. Salma Hayek does it. 2. Salma Hayek does it and 3. Salma friggin-Hayek does it. Need I say more? Because I will. I have absolutely no shame in my game

COUNTING DOWN TO MY COOLER CLEANSE EXPERIENCE:
I went a little crazy the weekend before my cleanse. As part of my preparation, I ate everything in site. Think of any junk food on planet earth: it ended up in my belly. I was at a friend's house in Westchester that weekend and she knew something was up. I told her about the cleanse and told her what my goal was: to eat as much junk food as I could so I would have no cravings during the cleanse. But did that work? Well, I choose not to go there, but let's just say i'll follow instructions next time and ease into the cleanse by eating fruits and veggies. Like Really.

1 DAY BEFORE THE COOL(er) DOWN:
We (tamsen and I) were told to stay away from caffeine; We didn't. We just couldn't. She's much worse than i am. We get to work before 3am everyday so we need our caffeine like we need air. I did try to eat a lot of veggies and less junk, but it was a tough task. And I was honestly getting worried that I wasn't prepared well enough for the cleanse because we were instructed to ease into it by eating lots of raw fruits, veggies and a whole lotta water.

DETOXING WITH COOLER CLEANSE:
Our bags were delivered around 7am...we knew what to expect from the little coolers, but it became all too real. The 6 bottles were in the little coolers, numbered accordingly. The first drink was the veggie drink which I thought I wouldn't enjoy but it felt good drinking it, especially considering all the good I was doing to my body by doing so. It really did feel good. I felt responsible too, like I was doing right by my temple (and by temple, I mean my body, that's what i call it; ok, i'm lying, i don't. John Mayer calls it a Wonderland though, but let's never ask him about it. It's supposed to be our little secret or my dream...dreams, secrets, same meaning, right?. Well, its not right, but that's my story and i'm sticking to it) But would i be able to stick with the cooler cleanse? Only time would tell.
I had my favorite drinks...i had a least favorite one but the only reason i'm not mentioning it is because I don't want to have people expect it to be that way for them because its different for everyone
Doing the cleanse made me realize how much we rely on food whether we need it or not. The bagel, the candy, the diet soda, I really don't need all of that, but I just eat them because they are right there in front of me. I was a bit more disciplined during the cleanse but i still thought about food a lot. A WHOLE LOT. I did have a headache on my first day and again because of the craziness of our schedules i didn't have my drinks 2hrs apart, and I had the first two and then went for a while before having the rest....I still think the headache was from the caffeine withdrawal...that and the fact that i was tired were the only setbacks I had. Oh and i think at some point, I looked up in the sky and i could have sworn i saw Jesus; like a glimpse!
I only got to stay on the cooler cleanse for 2 days because i had to fly out for a wedding and i couldn't travel with it for the 3rd day. I wasn't about to get arrested for carrying all that liquid with me at the airport.
Its baffling how you notice a change within such a short period. It wasn't a drastic change, but i felt like i lost something...it wasn't my mind, I lost that a long time ago, but i just felt less bloated. Yes, I said bloated. We've established that i have no shame in my game. Absolutely none. So no bloating, no heartburns, which i have a lot...And i think i'm allergic to gluten so i usually get tummy aches and pains and for two days, I had none of that. i have to admit, I was hungry, really hungry, but I'm still alive, I made it through.
So would i do it again? Damn Skippy I would. But next time, I'll leave off the "all you can eat junk food buffet" that i apparently indulged in before the cleanse, I would ease into it just like I was told and follow instructions no matter what. And I would probably do the raw cooler first to get my body ready for the cooler cleanse.
Why would I do it again? Because I want live a healthier and happier life...Who am I kidding? And also because Salma Hayek did it. Seriously. Salma friggng Hayek!
