Tips To Keep Your Pet Cool During Summer Heat

Can you feel the heat? There are plenty of hot summer days ahead. Wendy Diamond, pet lifestyle expert and editorial director of Animal Fair Magazine, was here with suggestions how help your pet cope.
Signs of Pet Heat Stroke: Heavy/loud breathing, a staggering gait, bright red tongue or gums
Treat them by:
- Get animal to a cool place, put cold compress on its belly or wet it down
- If it doesn't seem to help, take your pet to a veterinarian
Tips to Prevent Your Pet From Overheating:
- Do not leave your pet alone in your car
- Animals succumb to heat stroke quicker than humans
- Don't let your dog exercise in hot weather
- Run with your dog in the cooler hours |of the early morning or late evening
- Pets need a cool, shady place to sleep
- Pets need plenty of clean, fresh water, accessible at all times in a tip-proof bowl
- Metal bowls left in the sun can get hot (plastic or ceramic is preferable)
- Feed your pet in the cooler hours
- Be sure your pet's vaccinations are up to date
