Teen Kamran Safi Documents His Escape From The Taliban To A New Life

Sixteen-year-old Kamran Safi was born in Nangarhar and raised in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. Three years ago, Kamran did the seemingly impossible. At only 13 years-old, he fled for his life (and from the Taliban) and embarked upon a year-long journey that would take him 3,554 miles away from home. unaccompanied.
Forced to leave behind his mother, his friends, and all that he had ever known, Kamran spent the following year fending for himself as he made his way through Pakistan, Turkey, Greece, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom.
Now, at 16-years-old, Kamran travelled to yet another foreign country. This time though, his journey will be both joyous and accompanied. On Wednesday, Kamran will set his eyes upon New York City.
Kamran is one of eight youth filmmakers who will be traveling to the Big Apple for the June 18th World Premiere of Youth Producing Change, an innovative program of short films produced by teens across the globe and showcased with the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival.
Selected from over 250 worldwide submissions, Kamran's short-film shares the story of his escape and is titled, Kamran's Story.

I saw him at the NY showing on Friday! Even though he has went through many hardships, he still keeps an upbeat attitude that spreads to others!
