Working Women: From Passion To Paycheck

workingwomen.jpg

Tamsen Fadal kicks off a special month-long report "Working Women." Throughout May, she will be taking a closer look at businesses founded by women.

When it comes to launching a successful business, there are few steps to keep in mind. Female entrepreneur Angela Jia Kim, founder of Savor the Success, calls them "The Four P's:" Passion, Posse, Presentation, Paycheck

Here are examples of the "The Four P's" in action, people who went from passion to a paycheck.

Passion
Product: Om Aroma & Co. - Fresh organic skincare
Backstory: Angela launched her successful organic skincare line in her Manhattan kitchen by creating formulas for her own sensitive skin. She was passionate about finding a solution to a problem. This passion has been her key to success as her products have gone from her kitchen to the Oscars to opening her first boutique at the Limelight Marketplace in NYC on May 7th.
Tip: If you follow your passion, creating your dream business will not feel like work.

Posse
Product: Measure Up Bowl - Portion-control bowls
Backstory: When Heather launched her business, she had no business background and no start-up money. She began to reach out to others who were successful and found mentors. She didn't hang around toxic energy or negative people, she found her "posse" through network organizations such as SavorTheSuccess.com and Launcher's Cafe.
Tip: Make sure you only hang around people who empower you and make you feel like you can do it. Find your posse.

Presentation
Product: Saurette - Contemporary clothing for children
Backstory: After launching, Lisa invested in a beautiful website and photos that appeal to her target audience. The way you present yourself is the customer you will attract. She now has celebrity clientele as a result.
Tip: Polished presentation goes a long way in attracting the right customer!

Paycheck
Product: Lindie & Friends - Plush toys
Backstory: After Kara launched her business, she started to sell at craft fairs and tradeshows. This is great because she makes a lot of sales but also sees the customer reaction to her products and can get immediate feedback.
Tip: Sell your products at local fairs so you can start seeing a paycheck from this dream business that you've created!

All four of these ladies will be selling their products at Women Entrepreneurs Rock the World event in NYC on May 5th at the Altman Building. For information, go to www.rocktheworldnyc.com. If you are thinking of launching your dream business, attend this exciting event on May 5 - 6th!
