Online Marketplace Safety

Mark Novak, president of Global Security Group, stopped by to talk about online marketplace safety.
He says:
- Don't post any personal information on the internet
- Use the anonymous email address when posting an ad
-Once you agree to meet a buyer or seller don't simply rely on email. Get a phone number and speak to this person before meeting, confirm names and how many people you will be meeting with
- Always meet in a crowded public place
- If you must go to a stranger's home, bring a friend with you
- If you can't bring a friend always have a cell phone with you and make
sure someone knows where and when you are meeting this person.
- If something doesn't seem right call a friend and say "I'm here at (give
location) with (name of buyer or seller) and want to ask you a question
about this item."
- Stay on the phone the whole time if need be
- Avoid carrying large amounts of cash if possible.
- Trust your instincts, if something doesn't seem right don't be
afraid to call off the deal and leave
