New Map Shows Cancer Cases By Neighborhood
New Yorkers now have a cancer "map" which shows the number of cancer cases by neighborhood.
The interactive map used data from the New York State Cancer Registry and the State Department of Environmental Conservation and it lists the number of cases of the 23 most common cancers within a census block or zip code. It also marks any of 15 environmental facilities, like chemical and oil storage areas and hazardous waste facilities.
The map does not indicate risk factors or give information about whether or not chemicals were released from facilities. It's merely a listing of cancer cases and facilities.
