Senator.jpg

New York Senator Kiristen Gillibrand (D) stopped the PIX11 studios this morning to talk with anchor John Muller.

Gillibrand discussed federal efforts to take aim at the growing gang violence on Long Island.

She says the gang problem is being fueled by the growing heroin problem.

Gillibrand also dismissed criticism that she is a lavish tax and spender from newly anounced Republican Challenger David Malpass. She callled Mapass a "failed economist."

Gillibrand is also is launching a campaign for better nutrition. She says too many areas in the state are "nutrition deserts."

Gillibrand wants all communities to have local access to stores where they can buy healthy foods like fruits and vegetables.
