Homeowners in White Plains Face Property Tax Increase

White Plains officials have proposed an 18.9% property tax hike. The proposed increase comes as a result of lagging sales-tax receipts, which account for 30% ot the city's revenue.

White Plains City Council President Tom Roach stopped by to talk about the proposal saying, "There is no way we can ask the tax payers in the city to carry that kind of burden." The city will also eliminate 48 jobs.

A public hearing will be held May 3rd. The budget must be approved by May 30th. For more on White Plains, log onto http://www.cityofwhiteplains.com/ .

To the citizens of White Plains, remember Proposition 13. In 1978, California citizens rebelled against an overspending government under then Governor Jerry (Moonbeam) Brown and passed Proposition 13 to limit the property tax increases to 1% annually starting with the value of the home at purchase. Seniors were losing their homes. New homeowners were being forced out due to taxes. You need to starve the government spending beast first then discuss taxes. I looked online and it showed your average home value at about $400K. That means around $72K per household annually ? That means each homeowner supports 1 government worker ? Is that what you want ? California has again overspent and is $20B in debt presently with the CA Democrat controlled legislature pushing to repeal Prop. 13. The government beast will never be tamed unless you force them on a spending diet. Rebellion now or serfdom tomorrow, your choice.
