green0419.jpg

Green Living expert Danny Seo will be here to kick off PIX's Earth Week's celebration with a look at details on the free items being given out on April 22nd, Earth Day. Today's featured freebies included:

1. Recycle a Pair of Jeans, Get a Free Pair
2. Recycle Bottle Caps, Get Free Aveda Products
3. Electronic Waste, Get a Free Gift Card
4. First Time Ever: Buy One, Get One Free from Lowe's
5. Earth Day Freebies for the Kids at Pottery Barn Kids
6. Free Eco Tubes of Paint

• Recycle a Pair of Jeans, Get a Free Pair
On Saturday, April 24th, the JCPenney store at the Manhattan Mall (100 West 33rd Street, New York, NY 10001-2913) will be hosting the first-ever Denim Drive to benefit Goodwill Industries. The first few people (it will be 500-1000; exact number TBD) who bring in an old pair of jeans to donate that morning will be given a JCPenney gift card applicable for a free pair of jeans; after that, every donation will be met with a JCPenney discount card good for that day. Jeans are the #1 re-sold item at Goodwill stores that raises money for their valuable charitable works that helps people in need find employment and self worth.

• Recycle Bottle Caps, Get Free Aveda Products
On Thursday, April 22nd from 11AM-4PM, the Aveda store at Columbus Circle will give a complimentary Aveda product sample to anyone who brings in plastic bottle caps for recycling for their Aveda Caps Recycling Program. Aveda's campaign works to eliminate the waste of bottle caps that end up polluting our oceans by collecting bottle caps from all types of sources---water, soda, detergent and shampoo---to recycle in their stores. To date, more than 50,000 pounds of caps have been collected. Additionally, people visiting the Aveda store that day will receive free stress-relieving hand massages, too.

• Electronic Waste, Get a Free Gift Card
All Office Depot stores will not only take your old personal electronics for recycling, but they will appraise their value on the spot and offer you a gift card to Office Depot for that amount through the Office Depot Trade & Save program. Items like Ipods, digital cameras, GPS devices, laptops, desktop computers, gaming consoles, cell phones and camcorders are all eligible. It's simple: bring in your items for recycling and they'll evaluate the age, condition and value on the spot and tell you what its worth. You have the option of agreeing to the price or can leave with your items if it's not enough. Since some retailers like Staples charge for electronic recycling, this free service is still a better deal even if your broken IPOD comes up worthless.

• First Time Ever: Buy One, Get One Free from Lowe's
To celebrate Earth Day, Lowe's Home Improvement wants to make it easy for customers to save energy and money at home by offering a 2-pack of energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulbs at an unbeatable price: buy one, get one free.

• Earth Day Freebies for the Kids at Pottery Barn Kids
All Pottery Barn Kids stores (69th and 2nd Avenue) will help their young customers celebrate Earth Day with free coloring books with sea life facts and packets of seeds they can plant and watch grow. Pottery Barn is also donating a percentage of sales to the Monterrey Bay Aquarium, including a sea-themed puzzle.

• Free Eco Tubes of Paint
Artists will have a chance to stock up on recycled oil paint from Gamblin Colors (Lee's Art Shop, 220 West 57th St.) this Earth Day. Torrit Grey paint is made from recycled pigment dust of every color produced by Gamblin Artists Colors throughout the year. The pigment dust is collected in an air filtration system in their factory and then mixed together to create a special recycled oil color: Torrit Grey, which is made up of every pigment Gamblin uses. This Earth Day, tens of thousands of free tubes of paint will be given away as part of their green recycling initiative.

Darn, I'm sorry I missed the hand massage at Aveda. As a busy licensed massage therapist I sure could use some work on my own hands!
