PIX11 Morning News Anchors Wear Kilts For A Cause

national1.jpg

There just may be an unusual amount of plaid around town this week. You can attribute the tartan-wearing craze to the organizers of New York Tartan Week. The celebration kicked off on April 2nd and ends on April 10th with New York's Tartan Day Parade on Avenue of the Americas (Sixth Avenue from 45th Street to 55th Street).

And today, April 8th, put on your best kilt and wear it to work. It's "Wear a Kilt to Work Day." The Glenlivet will donate $1,000 to the organization Direct Relief for every television news anchor or reporter who wears a kilt on camera. Of course, the anchors of the PIX11 Morning News were up to the challenge. To help out the good cause, they strutted their stuff in kilts this morning.

With John Muller, Tamsen Fadal, Jill Nicolini, Linda Church, Steve Salvatore, Lisa Mateo, Rocco DiMase, Dennis McKenna, and a couple of camera operators all wearing kilts, $10,000 was raised by the PIX Morning News. Now, that's fashion with a purpose.

On this day, The Glenlivet also encourages corporations and small businesses to challenge their employees to wear a kilt to work for a day to raise funds for a good cause. For every employee that faces up to the challenge, companies will donate at their discretion to Direct Relief International, an organization whose mission is to improve the health of people living in developing countries and those who are victims of natural disasters, war and civil unrest.

Amongst the Scottish fanfare this week, is the signature event, Dressed to Kilt, a gala evening of celebrities and models showing tartan-inspired fashion. Sir Sean and Lady Connery played hosts to this eighth annual charity fashion show and long list of well-known names hit the runway such as actors Mike Myers and Gerard Butler, rock icon Joan Jett, and New York Yankees legend Bernie Williams.

Proceeds from the event go to Through Friends of Scotland, a non-profit organization founded by Sir Sean Connery and will benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America and its Scottish equivalent, the Erskine Hospital of Scotland, along with the Wounded Warrior Project.

I would like to thank our Scottish friends for remembering Haiti! It warms my heart to see that even though Haiti is no longer in the news, it still has people's hearts. My country will be needing help for many years to come.
