Grand Prix New York Racing To 'Race For Relief' For Haiti

On Friday, March 19, hundreds of Westchester kids and their parents will come together to raise money and awareness for Haiti relief efforts at Race 4 Relief. The family friendly event, to be held at Grand Prix New York Racing (GPNY) in Mount Kisco, will include dinner and music and entertainment provided by Hal Prince. Kids will enjoy an air castle and ice cream and candy bar donated by Last Licks. And, of course, children of all ages (over 4 feet tall!) will get to kart Race for Relief around GPNY's state-of-the-art indoor racetracks.
One hundred percent of the funds raised will go to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, and President Bill Clinton will deliver a special taped message to Westchester families. Westchester's own All Pro football star Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens will attend and promises to take on a few lucky racers in a championship round.
The event is the brainchild of a group of Westchester moms and their kids who wanted to help kids in Haiti in the aftermath of that nation's devastating earthquake. "We wanted to do something more than write a check," says Race 4 Relief committee member Hope Wolfe of Bedford, NY, whose kids batted around such fundraising ideas as car washing and jewelry making. "Things just took off from there. The response from the community - from the amazing generosity of Grand Prix, which is hosting the event, to the many local businesses who have donated food, flowers, and great stuff for our silent auction - has been incredible."
Ms. Wolfe's kids and their peers will do their part too. Daughter Devon, 9, and her friends are busy making bracelets in the red and blue of Haiti's flag to sell at the event. "I hope we can sell a lot," says Falyn Goldstein of Armonk, also nine. In Chappaqua, Kyle Falmino, 8 and Sam Spar, 15, are both organizing pals to sell baseball caps with the Race4Relief logo. Sophia Levine, 16, is recruiting friends from Byram Hills High School to provide face painting for younger kids at the event. "I am really happy to do whatever I can to help," says Ms. Levine.
Race 4 Relief is open to everyone and will take place from 6pm to 10pm at Grand Prix New York, 333 North Bedford Road, Mount Kisco, NY.
