Jennie%20Garth.gif

Actress Jennie Garth stopped by the studio to talk about her new Garden Party venture and her departure from 90210.

Garden Party is iVillage's new web series that will give families new ideas of how to add more vegetables to their diets. Garth will be showing off new produce each month, as she meets with different people involved in making vegetables a larger part of their lives.

A Urbana, Illinois native, Garth started taking dancing and modeling classes after her family moved to Arizona when she was 13. At 15 she was encouraged by a talent scout to pursue a career in acting and soon landed herself in roles on the tv shows A Brand New Life and Beverley Hills, 90210. Her other acting credits include the movie The Last Cowboy and her role on the hit tv show What I Like About You.

Watch the Garden Party each week on iVIllage.

This is the 2nd time I'm writing you on the same topic...MTA/Student Metro Cards. Today's stupid suggestion that we impose tolls on the East River bridges is another insult to our existence and intelligence. How much longer do we have to go on being enablers and bleeding hearts? Until all responsible and working class people leave New York completely? Unfortunately, that won't be the answer because the whole country is on a decline because of this stupid practice of placating those who only take and never make any valuable donations to society? How long do we go on tolerating the greedy and indifferent behavior or our greedy, enabling politicians who only operate on "what's in it for them" mentality and for who the real reprecussions of this type of enabling behavior will never touch their lives because they will always be above having to actually live amongst the "riff-raff".
I have lived and worked in N.Y. all my life as did my family before. The men fought in all the wars and the women worked and made parachutes for the military in their off work time. They paid taxes and worked and survived the depression and made America what it was meant to be..."The Land of the Free and the Brave"...if you were willing to work for it and not spend your life looking for hand-outs. People were too proud to take hand outs and when they lost everything, they started again to rebuild working hard and long hours. WE HAVE LOST ALL OF THOSE VALUES!!!!
This is why we are the butt-joke of the world now and everyone comes here now not to earn freedom, but to get everything for nothing, spit on us, and send the benefits of doing nothing to contribute, home to their countries that hate us. America is nothing to be proud of anymore and I, for one am glad that I am on my way out. I will die remembering what this country once was and could be again if we were more strict and what it stood for for as long as I can remember.
Since the MTA has had to be bailed out at least 3 times in as many years and they are unwilling to use their stimulus allowance to correct their poor judgement in making business decisions as wise N.J. did, I think that extreme lay-offs are in line to help correct/balance the deficits. In addition, as a retired attendance coordinating secretary for the NYC BD/Dept of Education for 30 years, as NON-BLEEDING HEARTS, it would be very easy to rectify this problem and make the system cost effective.
Each school in NYC has an attendance computer monitoring system (especially High Schools for which the students are the most truant). This system monitors each and every student an a daily and per period basis. It only takes a short period of time to compile a per school batch of students that should be exempt from receiving a free school MTA card based on their lack of attendance. A VERY LARGE PORTION OF STUDENT POPULATIONS DO NOT ATTEND CLASSES AT ALL. THEY ONLY GO TO THE SCHOOLS FOR THE FREE MTA CARDS, FREE MEALS, AND TO CAUSE TROUBLE WITHIN THE SCHOOLS. Based on these reports and letters that are generated showing these statistics, Social Service benefits are regulated, and often recipients are removed from benefits for lack of making sure that their children are in attendance. Unfortunately, the parents are not put in jail as it would have been in my day for not assuring/guaranteeing an education for their children. When the parents are removed from the welfare rolls, quite often they run to the school ranting because their benefits have been stopped. I used to explain to the parents that when they begin to practice their parenting "skills" and their children begin to come to school on a regular basis to obtain an education, a letter will generate automatically that can reinstate their benefits as long as the children remain in good attendance.
As it stands now, they don't care if their children have an academic/vocational education because the only education they are interested in giving their children is how to get everything for nothing and this goes on for generation after generation.
Be that as how our politicians and our country as a whole allow the systems to operate, if they use the attendance monitoring system to control the MTA student pass waste, there would be no deficit! We would save billions per year.
For every child that the school attendance monitoring system shows does not attend on a regular basis or barely at all for their entire scheduled day, THEIR PASSES SHOULD BE STOPPED!!!! Students that really want an education and attend on a regular basis according to the attendance monitoring system, should still get their passes.
When I was a child, we were very poor. My parents had to pay for our "Bus Passes" out of their pockets as well as our school snacks and lunches. If we could not afford those school meals, we brought lunch/snacks from home. When we could not afford a Bus Pass, we had to walk more than 20 city blocks every day until the next month when we hopefully had money to purchase a pass. My father had to work extra hours and my mother had to get a full time job to keep a roof over our heads. We were never allowed to tell anyone how poor we were...we were too proud. I, in turn at a very young age, had to take over the family/home chores (cooking, cleaning and some food shopping)as well as attend to my education with my parents support so my mother could work and I could get s good education since that was very important to my parents. I wouldn't change anything in my life no matter how bad it seemed at the time to be raised as children are being "not raised" today. However harsh my childhood may seem to some today, I thank GOD every day that I was raised as a responsible, thinking, privilege earning, take charge, and very capable citizen who never depended on hand-outs.
Society today is sending a very bad message and our quality of life as we know it today only closely resembles barbarianism equaling a me/I/my mentality. I hope all the people responsible are proud of themselves because I am not proud of them or my country!!!!
We need to:
1. Stop being bleeding hearts and take care of our country's problems.
2. Curb immigration and make and enforce stricter regulations
3. Send back or imprison all illegal aliens.
4. Stop giving free medical, food, housing, and any other benefits to people that come here illegally or otherwise.
5. Stop using our prisons to harbor murderers. They should have less rights then the people they kill. Reinstate the death penalty and shorten the process so we have room in the prisons for regular criminals and reinstate the "3 offenses and your done" policy.
6. Attend to and stop ignoring our country-wide "gang" problems because IT DOES EFFECT YOUR LIVES!
7. Pay more attention to the "white collar crimes" that are finishing off our country.
8. Stop condoning careless human reproduction behavior. Every child deserves 2 loving, contributing, active parents and a fighting chance at life. Don't promote creating lives/babies and hoping that they will be able to raise themselves as you discover you are not able to do so alone and turn them over to society to be raised. IT'S NOT FAIR TO THE CHILDREN OR THOSE WHO HAVE TO SUPPORT THEM FINANCIALLY AS WELL AS THEIR OWN CHILDREN.
9. Last but mostly, stop promoting hate and blame. Let's lock arms and proceed forward, together, as one people to make this the ultimate place again to raise our families side by side and address our needs as a nation, America! (not the land of the greedy and ineligible) Remember anything worth having IS WORTH EARNING AND FIGHTING FOR. IT IS WORTHLESS AND MEANINGLESS IF IT IS HANDED TO US FOR NOTHING AND TOO EASILY.

RESTORE OUR COUNTRY'S VALIDITY AND VALUES!!

GOD BLESS AND HELP US ALL!!!
