Black History Month: Skin Care for People of Colour

color0217.jpg

In celebration of Black History Month, Dr. Susan Tanne of Cosmetic Laser MD is debunking the myths and shedding some light on dark skin care. She'll go over discolorations/dark spots, lightening, sun protection and some do's and don'ts.

Discoloration
• eMatrix Sublative Fractional Rejuvenation – The ONLY safe, effective, affordable treatment for all skin types– discolorations, acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, stretch marks, sun damage, small broken blood vessels, skin tightening

Lightening
• Melanage Skin Lightening Peel – Safe and effective for all skin types including dark skin. Includes in-office masque and at-home skin care regimen.
• Hydroquinone – Custom blended in-office for at home-use. Combine with Retinol product and Sunscreen – as directed.

SPF
• Myth of SPF – Refers to UVB (causes sunburn) only. UVA protection is not evaluated by SPF number. UVA causes brown spots, sun damage, wrinkles and skin cancer.
• Custom tinted sunscreen- Can match any skin tone. Cosmetically elegant.
• Over-the-Counter Sunscreens – Neutrogena, La Roche-Poissey

Do’s and Don’ts
Do – Be a label reader/savvy consumer
Do – Wear sunscreen every day – even cloudy days
Don’t – Pick acne lesions – they will leave scars and brown spots
Don’t – Use coarse scrubs on your face - save those for your feet – treat, don’t irritate.

I have acne scars and dark skin. How many treatments do I need to see a real difference?
