As a recently retired, long-time Board of Ed Employee in the NYC High School System for approx. 30 years, I am aware of the inappropriate delegations of various funds that are distributed to persons not really entitled in our system. These disbursements and distributions cost the taxpayers excessive $$. I find the following to be necessary in order to keep things on the up and up financially and still ensure that those that really need and deserve, are provided for:

Issue Metro Cards for travel to and from school ONLY TO THOSE WHO HAVE SATISFACTORY ATTENDANCE RECORDS and attend on a regular basis...not to those that are SERIOUSLY TRUANT AND ONLY ATTEND OCCASIONALLY for the free transportation cards and free meals. There are MORE TRUANTS using the cards for other purposes than using them for their education. This monitoring is easily done from each school's attendance monitoring computer system and should be somehow web-linked to the MTA System for verification. Children in poor attendance should not be able to get free transportation if they are not attending school on a regular basis and in good faith to obtain an education.

In addition, we all should keep in mind that in the last few years, the MTA has been caught with "cooked books" and inflated undocumented expenses on at least 3 occasions for which they have never been punished or fined. It seems like they have "The Tiger by the Tail" and are holding tight making expenditures for salaries and such without substantiation or regard for the general public. Who is allowing this?!?!? What happened to the cooked books? Instead, they were rewarded at least 2 of the 3 times with more taxpayer's funds and buyouts. What gives?!?! I guess the MTA is the new AIG!

so happy to see Larry back!

I am a New Yorker born and raised and have recently moved to Ft. Lauderdale. It was nice to see Larry Hoff on here again, as I used to watch the Channel 11 morning show to see his and Sukanya's funny antics. Keep 'em coming.
