How MTA Cuts Affect NYC Students

PIX is trying to help students keep their transportation privileges. We've initiated Project SOS -- Support Our Students.

Here to talk about the financial strain these MTA cuts will cost students are Hiro Shinohara, a teacher at NYC's High School of Ecnomics and Finance and Assemblyman Lou Tobacco.

I pay in excess of $4,000 school tax every year. A large portion of that tax pays for bus transportation for our school children. We get no support from the MTA, but I am forced to pay many taxes that support the failing mis-managed corrupt MTA. Why should up-staters be subsidising the NYC students with more taxes ?!
Those yellow school buses are paid for with my excessive local school taxes !!!!

Goodmorning all ... i'm writing because the MTA is outrageous! Why cut the free metrocards of those who cant afford to pay for it other ways and need the free metro cards to get an education?

MTA needs to cut the metrocards and ezpass given to executive monthly. They can afford to pay for these expenses student can't. These metro cards given to workers of the MTA and executives are sometimes not used or misused so thats the extra fat that needs to be cut. Not the future of the students!!!!

Read this comment let it be heard and have something done about it!!!!!

Love you guys and WPIX have a great day

I am outraged by this even being a consideration. Here is a bright idea why don’t they slash those executives’ salaries in half instead of going after children who are not even legally old enough to work to pay for their own way. There has to be a better option and if there is none then I say these companys need to stop going after the little people who make a fraction of what the big bosses make and seriously at least until we are out of the financial crisis we are in the big shots could I don’t know make 500k a year instead of a million. Do the math and I bet it covers more than what they are asking from the children of NY.
