'Scrubs' Star Zach Braff Helps Open Mermaid Oyster Bar

Actor Zach Braff stopped by the studio to talk about his role as Dr. John "J.D." Dorian on the popular ABC comedy series Scrubs. He also stepped into PIX Kitchen with high school friend Chef Laurence Edelman. The old friends are partnering and opening new restaurant Mermaid Oyster Bar and showing us how to make Chef Edelman's signature dish -- Rock Shrimp & Crab Spaghetti Fra Diavalo.
Mermaid Oyster Bar is located at 79 Macdougal Street, near W. Houston Street in the Grenwich Village. For more information, visit www.themermaidnyc.com/oyster or call (212) 260-0100.
The one-hour season premiere of Scrubs is on Tuesday, December 1 at 9pm on ABC. For more information, visit abc.go.com.

Chef Laurence Edelman's Rock Shrimp & Crab Spaghetti Fra Diavalo
Serves 4
Ingredients:
5 cloves chopped garlic
1 medium sized white onion sliced thin
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper (depending on spice your preference) One sprig of rosemary ¼ cup roughly torn basil
1 box of dried spaghetti
3 cups Peeled Italian plum tomatoes, crushed
1 ½ cups Rock Shrimp, cleaned
½ lb Jumbo lump crab meat
Arugula
Olive oil
Lemon juice
Salt to taste
Method:
1. Take a pot of salted water and bring to a boil.
2. Take a pot big enough to hold all the ingredients and put it on a medium burner with enough olive oil to coat the pan. Take the garlic and place in the pan. Cook until it just starts to turn golden brown, about 1 minute. Add the sliced onions. Be sure to coat everything in the olive oil. 3. Put in the crushed red pepper and the sprig of rosemary. Cook until onions are soft. Add a little more olive oil. Add the rock shrimp and season the whole thing with salt to taste. Put in the peeled Italian plum tomatoes. Add the torn basil. Cook for about 4-5 minutes. Put to the side while the pasta cooks.
4. Cook the pasta until its al dente. Drain and put directly into the pan with the sauce. Continue cooking for about another minute so the pasta fully cooks and absorbs some of the sauce. Put in the crab. Stir until everything is mixed.
5. Divide the pasta between four warmed pasta bowls. Garnish with fresh arugula lightly tossed in olive oil, lemon juice and a little salt.
