Growing Numbers Of Stay-At-Home Dads

stay1112.jpg

The number of stay-at-home dads is a growing trend these days. For some it's a choice and for others, they've lost their jobs and staying at home with the kids makes financial sense. Whatever the reason, it's a brave new world for them. And sometimes these fathers need a little encouragement and support. Our Allison Kaden reports on a local group that's providing that.

I began "stay at home duties" in 1992. I maintained a modified work schedule while the baby was sleeping . As my son grew older. spent more time with him and less time working. I enjoyed the interactions with ny son. We spent many hours outside. I was the first in the area to ROLLER BLADE in the back streets with my stroller.
My main poroblem were with the mothers. Although I had my supporters. Many were nasty. They wouldn't allow their children to play with my son. They would comment that they would not want their husband to stay at home. Their husband is a "Mans Man". Many supportive mothers would wisper to me. "I think your doing a great job". They seemed afraid to be seen with me.
In 1994 when I had my daughter. I found more acctance. Partly due to 2 (Brooklyn type) mother supporters, who wasn't afraid to outwardly support me.
In 1998 when I had my 3rd child. Their was less problems.
I find that the current anti-mail satire on television enhanses the Blundering Male Sterotype. This is the main problem I had over the years.
Currently I have an extremely close relationship with all my children. I don;t have the typical teenage problems. They are my biggest supporters
