FELA! Tells Story Of Afrobeat Legend Fela Kuti On Broadway

PIX11 Morning News Producer, Ojinika Obiekwe met up with the cast of the musical Fela! and brings us the story of the man behind the music.
FELA! is a new musical directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones, with a book by Jim Lewis and Bill T. Jones, in which audiences are welcomed into the extravagant, decadent and rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti. Using his pioneering music (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies)
FELA! explores Kuti's controversial life as artist, political activist and revolutionary musician. Featuring many of Fela Kuti's most captivating songs and Bill T. Jones's imaginative staging, this new show is a provocative hybrid of concert, dance and musical theater. A-listers Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith have signed on to produce the musical.
FELA! is playing at The Eugene O'Neill Theatre at 230 West 49th Street in Manhattan. For tickets and showtimes, visit www.felaonbroadway.com or call (212) 239-6200.

ojinka ..u are simply the best ...
we love uuuuuuuuuuu
Fela is a great hero and the world should know about him and what he really represents. He fought and defended human rights through his music and was brutalized by several military dictators in Nigeria. This is a must see for me and my beautiful wife.
ojinika you did a perfect job and we love you.
I'm thrilled that Fela's life has been turned into a musical. Thanks Ojinika for doing this piece. This show needs all the awareness it can get. You go girl!
