MTA workers should get raises. Why not? Their pay scale is low to begin with. If you want quality, you have to pay for it. You pay for what you get. And in light of how the MTA cooks their books, there is more than enough money for it. The MTA keeps raising the fares..where do they go? they should go to the MTA
** I don't work for the MTA or have family in the MTA**
The transit workers are the blood of the city. They keep it moving. They effect every commuter in the city, but because its not a cop or fireman they never get the respect. The city doesnt reneg on their contracts. Why?
I am A transport worker member. The question here is not if we should get a raise with the economy the way it is. The question is shouldn't the MTA have to obey the binding arbitration award handed down by the independent panel. This is the same binding abritration we were told three years ago that we had to accept. Why the double standard?
What people do not realize is that by MTA challenging what was granted in arbitation and if they are able to over turn the ruling it will set forth a new presidence. All union jobs will be in jeapordy when it comes time to renew their contract. Teachers, Police, Firefighters, Civil Jobs, etc... they will all be open to having the same thing done to them. MTA always states during contract time that they are broke and need to raise fares so they can get the commuters on there side but once they contract has been settled they have a huge surplus of funds. We should all back up the mta workers because your job can be next.
