Fall Outerwear That's Fun To Wear

coats1021.jpg

Its getting cold out there and to warm up, we've got some great looks. Fashion expert Kevin Lennox stopped by with his picks of outerwear that's fun to wear.

Models: Danielle & Chris
While the preppy look never truly goes out of style, this season we're seeing the trend pop up more and more all over the place, and it's a perfect option for both guys and girls, because preppy inherently combines style and function.

Danielle is wearing this chic, quilted Dory jacket in an eye catching yellow. What I love here is the notion of choosing a bright color for fall, not everything has to be an earth tone. Chris is rocking a canvas field coat, and what I adore about this is it has a thin insulated lining so this coat will keep him very warm without being bulky in the slightest.

If you haven't been shopping lately, the next time you go, take a look around and make sure you notice one thing, the color Purple! It's everywhere right now, and in every shade; cranberry, aubergine, pomegranate, mauve, etc.

Personally, I love it for a coat, like this one here from Lord & Taylor. The color is a deep cranberry, which is important, so Stacie doesn't look like Barney, and it has smart trench coat styling like the should flaps, belted waist and kick pleats in the rear to help make it very figure flattering. The grey pants are a great counterpoint to tone down the strong hue of the coat, but black and brown would also work too.

One of my favorite things about fall is layering. I love mixing, matching and contrasting colors, fabrics and textures. This season, one of the best ways to do that is with a super cool sweater jacket, since there are tons of sweater-as-outerwear options in stores right now, like this one from Banana Republic. I like this one because it's cut in a true jacket shape, and even has some hip military accents. I layered another sweater underneath with a cute blouse, to add some layers for warmth, but also to help add texture.

Make sure to notice I've mixed the knit jacket with corduroy pants, the embossed faux-crocodile bag and the chunky copper necklace. Fall is the time to mix and match and have fun with fashion!

Things get dramatic when it comes to evening, because this season it's all about embellishments. This piece from Tory Burch may not be for everyone, with pailettes everywhere and $1,300 price tag, but it's jackets like these that create real trends, and can be anyone's inspiration at whatever price point you can afford.

The important thing to look for with this trend are interesting details like fur, beading, and sequins. Since we're talking evening, you can really go for it!
