After much research and debate I feel I must voice my opinion... I have heard anti smoking till Im blue in the face, I have known relatives who have smoked all their lives and lived to be over 100 and I have known non smokers who have died from Lung Cancer. True Smoking is by no means a good habit but this is America the land of the free yet daily our freedoms are being stripped from us by anti this and anti that.

I feel a much stonger look needs to be taken towards alcohol than tobacco.... I have yet to hear of someone smoking and driving and killing innocent people. Havent heard of one documented case of domestic violence stemming because the husband had one to many cigarettes. Never sat in a bar or at a Ball game where someone smoked one too many cigarettes and started a brawl where innocent people were injured.....Never heard of a date rape happen from someone placing a "Mickey" in someones cigarette. Better yet how many people filling our prision system are there because of Smoking related crimes. Yet alcohol is the accepted fun past-time. Yes this country discourages drinking and driving but there are bars every where with cars parked out front..... And if someone drove there they will be driving home. That doesnt seem to be a problem.

And this advertising campaign lets kill Joe Camel he entices kids to smoke, well has anyone taken a look at the alcohol ads.... every one is a party on the beach, beautiful women and tons of fun....and lets not forget the TWINS no that wouldnt encourage kids to drink... and lets not forget about the budweiser Frogs and Lizards.

I as a parent would much rather my child take up smoking than drinking... I would rather go to a ball park with young children and have them exposed to smoke than a bunch or rowdy drunks, not just a ball park, most family restaurants serve alcohol, what? those people dont get in their car with their children and drive home after a couple of beers?

Now for some stats...

Alcohol related deaths are over 100,000 per year 1/4 of all hospital admissions are alcohol related , 1 of 13 adults have drinking probems and over 8 million are full blown alcoholics according to AA records.

Now on the other hand very few tobacco related deaths are recorded for people under the age of 34 nearly 60% occur at age 70 or above. The US goes to war against nicotine which is not an intoxiant has no connection with crime and poses little danger to children and young adults.... True if a teens smokes for many years they Could possibly die of lung cancer.

I just feel this countrys hard work needs to be focused somewhere else... like illegal drugs and alcohol.

Now we all know people die in cars daily... many more than from Smoking as the facts state below... hmmmm should be ban driving as well??

“Motor vehicle crashes in the United States result in more than 40,000 deaths per year,” says the Institute in the journal Injury Prevention. “That is, on each of the 6,209 consecutive days included in this study, an equivalent of a plane load or more of people died on the roads.”

But not all days are alike. Weekends are worse than weekdays, summer and fall months have more deadly crashes than winter or spring months, and holidays top the list for crash deaths.

The Institute studied U.S. Department of Transportation data from 1986-2002. Information covered crashes on public roads resulting in a death within 30 days, including pedestrian deaths.

On average, more than 100 people per day died in car crashes in the U.S. The death toll for a single day can range from 45 to 252 people, say the researchers.
