Give Your Labor Day A BBQ Makeover

bbq0902.jpg

The long Labor Day weekend brings about the traditional end of summer and often, end of diet due to tempting barbeque food! Rather than spoil your diet, we've got your guide to a healthier BBQ. Anna Maltby, contributing editor to Eat This, Not That! Best and Worst! was here with some tips.

Drinks:
• If you’re going to be drinking this Labor Day we suggest MGD 64, Beck’s or Michelob Ultra
• If you’re reaching for a margarita the brand you chose will make a huge difference in calories. Choosing Sauza over 1800 The Ultimate Margarita Mix will save you more than 80 calories each drink!
• Your best bet is to make margaritas with fresh lime, but if you're reaching for a mixer, the goal with mixers is to keep the sugar count as low as possible.

Snacks:
• Let’s face it—the big bowls of snacks are everyone’s favorite part of a party. Muir Glen Organic Salsa and Cheez Whiz represent the power opposites of our industrial food system. You’ll save 80 calories and 7 grams of fat by making this simple switch!
• Pretzels: Often thought of as the diet-friendly snack, you can easily fall into the trap of thinking they're all the same. Choose Snyder's of Hanover Sourdough Hard Pretzels (100 calories) over Rold Gold Hard Sourdough, which has double the sodium.

Burgers
• The main attraction at any barbeque is the grill! What you chose to put on your burger can be a difference between a reasonable indulgence and an all out guilty day of eating! Maltby went over Ground Turkey vs. Ground Beef, Whole Wheat Bun vs. Plain White Bun and sauces Mayo, Ketchup and Barbeque Sauce.

I loved Larry's reporting this morning doing BBQ in Long Island. Lots of energy, and a great looking restaurant. Will you be putting video from that segment(s)on the site?

Anna Maltby on September 3rds morning show was fabulous. Very surprising and interesting information presented by a beautiful, fun young lady!I have just recently begun a campaign for myself to begin eating better, and this interview inspired me,and prompted me to buy all three books, so that I am now on my way to good health. Thank you Anna!
