How To Get A Man To Tell The Truth In 4 Steps

man0826.jpg

Like it or not, every guy—even the nice ones—won’t tell the truth now and then. Men often tell little lies to avoid conflict (like about having to work late the same night as your best friend’s birthday dinner).

The next time you get the nagging feeling that he’s full of it, use these strategies to trigger a voluntary confession. Cosmopolitan magazine editor Molly Triffin stopped by the studio to explain the four easy steps.

• Bring His Guard Down: Position yourself across the room from him—if he’s sitting on the couth, sit on the floor six to nine feet away. When a guy is on edge, sitting lower than him signals it’s a non-threatening conversation.

• Start General: Lead off with a question that’s related to the lie. For example if you suspect he fibbed about doing something you had asked, say. "So how did that thing go?" Meanwhile appear distracted by flipping TV channels or messing around on your laptop.

• Avoid Accusations: Lead him to the truth by making a non-confrontational statement. Use these five magic words. “Is there any reason why….” And complete the sentence by explaining how you think he may be deceiving you. It will seem like a request for information rather than an accusation.

• Don’t Make Him Regret It: Let your man know you won’t punish him for telling the truth and he’ll be less likely to lie in the first place. When he confesses, find a way to cool off, then talk about how to make your relationship more open. Make sure to thank him for coming clean.
