Public schools should recognize these holidays. Jewish and Christian holidays are being recognized too. Plus, it gives some people a break from the kids during the morning and evening rush hour.

And what about Chinese New Year? Asians make up a huge part of NYC's population! If they're going to add any more holidays to the public school year calendar, it should be the Chinese New Year first!

I think they should definitely recognize the muslim holidays. me being a 35 year old of muslim descent, I used to feel alienated as a child due to the fact of not having any similarities with kids in school and not being able to celebrate holidays without feeling like odd one out. no kid should be subjected to that because of political bigotry. time for change!

Public schools should recognize these holidays. Jewish and Christian holidays are being recognized too. I suggest take off the 2 jewish hoildays in October and give the muslims 2 days to start. Dont make the people of the city think that you are not a good mayor.

if its observed on top of all other observances, think about how much more the kids would miss school, how many more days teachers would get paid 4 a day off as suppose 2 working 4 it. besides if religion is so important 2 these families there r schools that emphasize specific religions. being that education is a parents responsibilty 2 there children &their upbringing then they should consider those schools. otherwise they city would have 2 consider every other religion that make up the major part of this country.

I think that public schools should recognize muslim holidays for the simple fact that we recognize 99% of jewish holidays. Now alot of you folks would want to say that public school observes christian holidays but America was founded by christians. i thought that this country was religion friendly but i guess its only for the jews. in this country we have american jews and american muslims lets stop being bipartial and racist.

i think public schools should recognize Muslim holidays because it isnt fair for the muslim kids that we have to work on religious holidays while jewish and christian kids dont.

Christian holidays are a given since many if not the majority of Americans are Christian or of Christian descent. However, Jewish holidays are observed in NYC schools. But now there are more Muslim Americans or equal numbers than Jewish Americans. For NYC, it is more true now than ever before. Therefore, it is about time to recognize Muslim holidays and include them as school holidays. Other major religions just don't have the large numbers yet when compared to Jews and Muslims. Non-religious holidays don't apply since there many many more ethnic groups that would fill the calandar with holes, and can still be celebrated without a school holiday. The Irish have been here a long time, but St Pat's day is still not a school holiday.

Many Muslims have to go to work/school on their holidays, due to the fact that there is not a day off. Muslims make up a population of the United States. If one is willing to give off for one group of holidays,it is only fair for Muslims to do too!

Yes they should recognize it and they should mention it with detail so others can learn about our special days and our religion.

It is only fair that Mozlem holidays should be recognized. Mozlems are an integral part of American society.
