Emily Frances Looks Back On Michael Jackson's Heartwarming Memorial

jackson2.jpg

What can I say? I've been an on-air reporter and the Entertainment Anchor on the PIX Morning News for many years. But never in my career have I experienced anything like the Michael Jackson Memorial at the Staples Center.

With over 3000 police and thousands of fans, I've never seen such a well-behaved, respectful, and quiet crowd. Everyone who came to the Memorial, including police and employees of the Staples Center truly felt blessed to be a part of such a history-making event.

Inside was also the same, from your eyes, you all made the memorial the third most watched TV Show after the Public Memorial of Princess Diana and President Obama's Inauguration. From my eyes, I saw it in person and felt so very moved.

You could literally "hear" the silence. The crowd was so mesmerized by the performances and speeches, not a single person opened their mouth, except for a few shout outs to Michael and his family during the pauses in between speeches. Not even a single cell phone went off. When does that ever happen? In fact, I had my own video camera and as I was struggling to hit record, I accidentally played another video. I felt like the entire arena of 20,000 heard my video camera and gave me a dirty look.

Take a look at some of my pictures from the event.

1) A skywriter drew a heart over the Staples Center. I think I may have been the only person to see this as it was during the time that all the fans were pouring into the Staples Center, so my media colleagues were busy going live.

2) My favorite picture of a young Michael Jackson. He was so cute. This was one of many pictures shown on the jumbotron outside of the Staples Center.

3) A picture of me doing one of dozens of Live shots. Can you tell, I'm on my 6th hour of live coverage starting at 1:30am LA time, finally a live shot when the sun actually rose.

4) My attempts of being creative. This is a picture of Stevie Wonder's performance, you can see him on two big screens, and you can see him in the distance on stage with a shot of Michael Jackson's casket..Not bad for being so far away and not having a flash.

Thanks for all your support.

Love

Emily Frances
