If you are a person( male, female, black, white, blue or green) running through the street after another person, with a gun in your hand, the tragic possibility is that you may be mistakenly shot.
This comment was blown out of proportion but it is indicative of the racial profiling issues that we are experiencing in areas that are largely inhabited by Blacks and Latinos. Whose to say that Charles Rangel doesn't have a sense of humor? Funny from one man to another maybe not but from one black man to another black man it is understandable seeing that some issues hurt so bad that you have to laugh to keep from crying. Those sentiments are simply the sentiments that people feel in their hearts whether on the inside looking out or the outside looking in. It's easy to judge what the experience of living and or visiting Harlem is like when you do it occasionally but if you check with the people who are there on a constant basis then you will find the sentiment is more common than not. I remember when the officer on the beat was my friend and looked out for all the people in the neighborhood and you knew that if you were in trouble you could go to him. It's such a shame that a couple dirty cops, a couple young and inexperienced cops and a couple scared cops have jaded the reputation of the good cops on the job. In the end though can you tell me whose at the other end of the smoking gun? Everyone loses, some just don't realize that a dead black man is more than likely someone else' s brother, father, son, husband or grandson and the fact that he was on the street and not in jail made him even more valuable to our community.
