What's New In The City For Native New Yorkers

It's the city that never sleeps and with that comes constant change. So, how can you keep up with the latest trends? DailyCandy.com Editor-at-Large Dannielle Kyrillos stopped to tell us what's new in New York to keep you in the know.
Friday Jones Fifth Avenue, at Senses NY Salon & Spa
138 Fifth Avenue, between 18th and 19th Streets, 2nd floor
The two-tone brunette has a degree in philosophy, a penchant for fighter pilots, and an obsession with iconography. She got an apprenticeship in the early '90s and hit the road - inking singers, Hollywood bad girls, military men. She's all rock and roll but knows the ladies are turned off by grimy parlors. Post-consultation in her calm, clean spa suite, you'll have a custom tat fitting (working with your musculature and personality).

Get your paws on the metallic, mirror-finished nail coverings, you have to warm them up. This took off in CA and now we finally have an easy place to get it. Just pick your brassy pattern: silver foil, pink leopard, gold lightning, chrome tweed, fishnet. Once your digits are buffed, decals are applied with heat and trimmed down to fit your nails. There's no drying time. Manis are chemical and chip free. If they peel a little - prematurely - just run them under the hair dryer until hot to the touch.
Civetta
98 Kenmare Street, between Cleveland Place and Mulberry Street
The Mediterranean eatery (it's "owl" in Italian) just opened. There's a marble bar area, separated from the rustic dining room by a row of church pews and canopy of dark carved wood. (There's a fresh Venetian parlor thing going on, and we like it.) Chef Ron Suhanosky (of much-talked-about Sfoglia) can be peeped from the 60-foot-long open kitchen, cooking up orders of saffron arancini with spring peas, spaghetti with guanciale and morels, and chicken al mattone - the house favorite. The lounge downstairs has red banquettes and huge brick columns flecked with light from the wine jug fixtures. It'll be a nice new spot for catching up with pals and sharing antipasti (grilled asparagus with sea urchin, deep-fried scamorza). And there's plenty of wingspan for a private part
