Caribbean Week: The Island Of Trinidad

Today marks Day Four of our Caribbean Week and today we're traveling to Trinidad, the Caribbean's Carnival headquarters. Ricardo Lorick, president of the Carnival Association, stopped by to talk more about the island of Trinidad and its world famous party. And to give us a taste of Carnival festivities are five masquerade dancers.
If you're interested in traveling to any island in the Caribbean, this is your lucky day. There is a free Caribbean Travel and Cultural Fair taking place today from 10 am to 4:30pm at the Manhattan Center. The event includes Caribbean food tastings and entertainment and a Caribbean vacation mart with incredible value vacation specials.
Be sure to tune in tomorrow, when Larry Hoff will be live at Long Beach for the Sparkle In The Sand Contest. Two couples will faceoff in the Sand to win a free honeymoon and destination wedding package.

That was the worst representation of Trinidad. The young lady seems not to know where the island is located. She didn't even sound like a Trinidadian. Did WPIX morning news do any research about the island, did they contact the local tourism authority.
We are much more that women wining.......
If it was the worst.....it didn't matter that the news didn't do their research it was up to people representing the island to come out blazing and it was a sad ass flop. Not to mention this was suppose to give the band exposure they needed to spend more time giving out info and less time dancing....jeez
You guys need to show Guyana some love too... We're always being left behind...
It's true that the girl froze up but I think it was up to WPIX to find something other than a mas band to represent Trinidad. The costumes are very beautiful though and I think Exotica is definitely a band to look out for this coming labor day.
It's a shame that she is from Trinidad and doesn't even know her country, its location, or the history of it. But that is a typical Trinidadian all they know is how to wine. Tirindad is not the only island in the Caribbean that has carnival there are many others. The spokesperson Alisha couldn't tell John anything that made Trinidad different from other islands in the Caribbean.
It was also sad that between the 5 of them no one knew where Trinidad is.
This was a very poor representation of the Caribbean in general.
This was by far, the worst display of Trinidadian culture that I have ever seen. Not only was the owner of this band an embarrassment, and a poor speaker but I doubt any real Trinidadian would support this video in anyway. This is the kind of video I would honestly hide from people. I understand that the band isn't well known or used widely throughout the island, but this kind of poor advertising should have been kept for the Brooklyn Labor Day Parade not for Pix 11 Morning News. I couldn't even make it through the entire video without holding my head down in shame. This is not what Trinidad is really about and I hope anyone who wants to visit does further research beyond this video.
Trinidad needs all the exposure it can get. I missed the presentation this morning and came to the site to see what I missed. I am not surprised by her lack of known Trinidad has never catered to tourism therefore we don't have a running slogan nor do we have an advertisment so I'm not surprised. I did like seeing my Island get some lite especially after the President's visit. Yes other islands may have canival but it was orginated in Trinidad. I Love my Island and any expo is fine with me we will get better at bragging about our island as we are really good at that. The costumes looked great!
I think many people are looking down at the band and the young lady that was a representative from Trinidad. I honestly don’t feel the band couldn’t have marketed themselves because they were referred to as dancers, not to mention what band would go on stage and not mention the mas camp location. The young lady froze and it's far more easier to give harsh criticism than constructive criticism. She froze and who doesn't freeze in front of a camera knowing there will be millions of people watching the show international as well as nationally. I think the costumes were FABULOUS. Its a bout damn time we see real mas and not just bra, feathers, a thong or panty and glitter. There was a whole week with each island of the Caribbean represented. If anything I would urge WPIX around labor day weekend to venture into each mas camp and get a taste of what the Caribbean has to offer through mas. This was just a glimpse of the Caribbean for Caribbean Heritage week. I like what I saw on T.V never mind the young lady froze, the costumes were spectacular and I feel Exotica and this other Band Ramojay are two bands to look out for this Carnival season.
That was the worst representation of the Repulic of Trinidad & Tobago that I have seen. It is very disappointing to see a person who may or maynot have been born and bred there represent their country so poorly. The costumes were nice yes, however, we are educated people and for someone to go and speak about our country and can't articulate themselves properly is absolutely ridiculous. It gives the impression that all we are about and know to do is "jumping, whining and waving." I hope and suggest that people who are really interested in our country, or would like to visit our country go and do research please. Go to any CUNY college and I assure you there will be a caribbean based group and they will give a much better description of Trinidad as well as other islands in the caribbean.
