I think that VP Biden used his history as a "loose gun" deliberately to make some outlandish statements that highlight the real public health message. His statements have created a (mock) controversy that has led to increased media interest and discussion of the real steps that need to be taken in the face of flu.
I never understood why this made the news services. The Vice President was asked a personal question and he responded with his personal opinion, including "but that's me" in his response. More than half the times that *I* fly, I catch a cold, so I completely understand his worry about a new flu strain.
I can understand Joe Biden's concern and there are many people out there that feel the same way BUT in his position of power he needs to think of everything before he speaks. It is one thing to express these feelings within the adults of your own family but not to the general public or young children. Everybody should be informed and educated as to how to try and prevent getting the flu but not sent into a panic. To me it is similar to keeping your composure even during the toughest times with your children. They look to us for strength and if we appear to be falling apart it can become very scary for them. The same goes for the country. We need strong role models and hopefully people will see that Vice President Biden spoke out of turn and continue on with there regular lives.
IT IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR TO HEAR A POLITICIAN SPEAK OUT ON THE LEVEL OF THE AVERAGE CONCERNED CITIZEN. IT IS NOT LIKE EVERY ONE OF US ARE CONCERNED ABOUT AND THOUGHT ABOUT THE VERY SAME THING ABOUT OUR OWN PERSONAL CONCERNS ABOUT THE SWINE FLU OUTBREAK. I DON'T SEE WHAT ALL THE OUTRAGE IS ALL ABOUT. LET'S KEEP IT REAL !
The Vice President was asked a personal question and he anwsered it,with his personal opinion. I can remember when Aids hit the scene and people were afraid to hold the handstraps in the subway cars but it did not stop them from traveling.
