Ask The Doctor: Is There A Correlation Between Breastfeeding And Developing Allergies?

The doctor is in! The PIX Morning News' Dr. Steve Salvatore is here to answer your questions:
1. I am eight months pregnant with my second child. My first child has severe allergies. He was allergic to milk and soy as an infant. I didn't breastfeed him. I've heard breastfeeding my second child will reduce his chances of having allergies. Its it true? Does breastfeeding reduce the odds of a child having allergies?
Janine, Staten Island
2. My dad is 75-years-old . He was sent to the ER for pneumonia but was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease. We aren't sure what this means. Can you please explain this condition to us, and give us some advice as to what my dad needs to do to continue living a productive life. Thank you in advance!
