Russell Brand Imparts His Wisdom Upon Us In 'My Booky Wook'

russell0310.jpg

He's crass; he's vulgar, and totally irresistable: English comedian and actor Russell Brand stopped by to shower us with his unconventional brand (no pun intended) of humor.

Don't let the title fool you--Brand's new book, entitled My Booky Wook is anything but a fun children's book. Rather, it is Brand's memoir, detailing his life of sex, drugs, and stand-up. My Booky Wook follows Brand before he became famous--a life that was anything but glamorous.

Brand's father left when he was three months old; he was bulimic at twelve and he began drinking heavily and taking drugs by age sixteen. He regularly visited prostitutes in Soho, began cutting himself, took drugs on stage during his stand-up shows, and even set himself on fire while on crack cocaine. In 2003 Russell was told that he would be in prison, a mental hospital, or dead within six months unless he went into rehab. He has now been clean for three years, and hasn’t looked back since. Brand approaches these subjects in My Booky Wook in an approachable and entertaining way.

Brand is perhaps best known as having portrayed womanizing rock star Aldous Snow in the hit flick Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He contributed two songs to the film's soundtrack, including the infamous track "Inside of You." He also starred alongside Adam Sandler in the Disney film Bedtime Stories last Christmas. He recently hosted the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.

You can catch Brand headlining the Manhattan Center Ballroom tomorrow at 8 pm. To find out more information, click here.

My Booky Wook is in bookstores now. Brand will be signing copies of his book tonight at 7pm at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square.

Watch the interview after the Jump?
OK I'd love to.
