Why should someone who becomes succesful and wealthy be punished for it? I am all for a Flat tax. Just a note I am a middle class tax payer.

They have the money, so what's the problem!

The wealthy should consider this a "commission" on their success. If all of us together build an environment where some achieve substantial success, then there's no reason why the government, representing *us*, should not collect a reasonable commission on the benefits the successful reap. The successful would have no problem paying an investment bank a decent commission, which also happens to be related to the size of the success. This is no different.

There's two meanings for "flat tax". One is everyone pays the same percentage. The other is that there's no or few loopholes. I prefer the simple, no loophole tax, with increased percentages for increased success.

In this economy all we see is the classic case of the "rich get richer and the poor get poorer." They should get taxed because they wouldn't feel it as much as a middle class man. Those making over $300,000 aren't getting their transportation costs such as the mta being risen because they take private cars. They should feel some of this economic recession. Not being rewarded ie, the bonuses at aig.

Once taxes go up, the government will do anything to keep it there. I should just quit my job and let the remaining productive workers pay for my existence!

The American dream was work hard and you'll succeed and make a lot of money. Now, they want to punish everyone who did that. Working hard and succeeding is not a crime and you should not be punished for it.

Yes i'm all for this but i don't think it should be temp salution. It should stay in place perminatly for a few reasons.

1. The first and most sain reason is because tax's should be contributed equaly by the rich/ middle and lower class. I make 32,605 last year, i'm in my second yr working for the city now so i've got my first increase and our unions helped us get a new contract with the city totaling a 8% increase. We got our retro money from this increase 2 checks ago and are about to get the second part of that 8% increase this friday i think. when we got out first and i seen my check i was shocked cause they put the money together with our regular check and as a result they took a big chunk of it. i was told if i make $500 more then what ever my regular pay is i get put in another tax bracket. Why should someone making that much money get to keep more of it when we are the ones that are hurting and always the first to get taxed when theres a problem like we have more to give. the most important part of all of this is when you have moeny like that you dont miss it if its not there unless your a stupid spender.

2. After the defficit is taken care of the state will have more money to use on other things besides having a stash to fall back on in tough times and ensure that the state wont have to make any lay offs down the line and can hire people.

From what i remember from watching the new when raising taxing on the rich came up, the only reason the state didnt want to do it is for fear of them moving. It was the right thing to do, if these people want play where the money is at they should have to pay just the same as everyone else and at a reasonable tax rate. If i get put in another tax bracket for every $500 more dollars i make so should they. Knowing the state wont do that this tax increase on them should be in place for ever.

equaly = means it stays in place for ever.

I do believe than everyone at any lever should pay taxes accordingly. The more you make, of course the more you should pay. As well as people who make less than 50k a year, when we have to pay to bail out either the subway system or mass trans, we all should pay our fair share. Why should the wealthy pay less when they make so much. They should put themselves in the shoes of those who barely make enough to shelter, feed and clothe their families.

i think that is wrong because people work very hard to earn they money and the way that the economy is going people are just going to do crazy things because they cant afford it right know to buy food for they children and pay rent and bills is very hard on all of us.i think that the governer should see what people are going threw right know.i hope he have a change of heart and think about the damage he is doing to these people and family with children god bless and i hope everything stays the same
