Russianoff: Straphangers Will Suffer From Fare Hike If Albany Doesn't Help

Gene Russianoff from the NYPIRG Straphangers Campaign stopped by the studio this morning to talk about yesterday's MTA vote for the fare hike and how it affects New Yorkers.
Russianoff said that along with the failing economy, the MTA is especially suffering because of their poor spending, like buying new train cars on borrowed money. He said that unless Albany helps the MTA, the fare hike will become a reality on May 31, 2009.
Commuters will suffer from not only fare hikes, but service cuts as well. Eliminating bus and train routes especially hurts the elderly and disabled, who rely on these routes to travel around the city.

the MTA is a munch greedy executive who always planned to raise the fare. Are you really surprised and don't allow the tolls because once they start they won't stop. Look at the Airline they and a fee because of gas but when the price went down the prices didn't. It's all a mess. Albany can't help itself.
