Help Me Howard: Car Dealer Doesn't Return Customer's Money

A Long Island man went to a Queens car dealer to buy a used car in January. He ended up paying $30,000 in cash, then just days later he found out the car had been in a prior accident, so he went back to confront the dealer.
That's when the dealer took back the car, kicked the customer off his property and refused to return his money. So, the customer called Help Me Howard.
For the full story, read Howard's blog: www.wpix.com/helpmehoward. If you have a problem, send him an e-mail at helpme@wpix.com or call his hotline at (212) 210-2490.

My mom is currently going through a similar situation. She purchased a vehicle that is worth $14,055 and put down $7000. Her paper work says she owes $21,055. The car is a lemon because water accumulates in the car every time it rains and they will not take it back. The also took $600 to get her insurance and the insurance company canceled the insurance a few days later stating fraud. They refuse to return that money too. what can she do?
We need stronger laws to protect us against these car dealers. I am currently battling a well known car dealer in White Plains, NY to get my $500 deposit back after their bait and switch tactics didn't work and forced me to take my business elsewhere. Now, they're trying to punish me by holding on to my deposit, which by law they MUST return. I reported them to the Attorney General's office, the BBB and Consumer Affairs, as well as contacting the Journal News, Help Me Howard (WPIX) and News 12 Westchester. Without the media getting involved, they will continue to defraud customers.
