Celebrate Greek Independence Day!

March 25 marks Greek Independence Day and to celebrate the anniversary of the Greek Declaration of Independence and we're honoring the Greek community of New York, the largest in the United States, and promoting Hellenic culture with a Hellenic Cultural Display.
This year's commemoration of Greek Independence Day is the 187th anniversary of Greek revolt against occupation by the Ottoman Empire and the commencement of the ultimately successful war of independence.
Greek dancers from St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in West Babylon, Long Island and St. Demetrios in Astoria, Queens will perform traditional Greek dance outfitted in customary dress. A display of Greek food from Long Island venue, Château La Mer, will also be presented by the chef and owner, George Voutsinas, who will explain the origins of each dish and its cultural significance.

I beleive a guest this A.M. said todays holiday was to celebrate the announcement of the birth of Mary if so thats wrong today is when Mary was told she would be giving birth to the Christ child by Archangel Gabriele
Marcellus Sabarese
Their is a correction to above post. It is St. Nicholas Church in West Babylon, NY. And their website is www.stnicholasbabylon.com.
Wasn't it both churches? St. Nicks of West Babylon and St. Demetrios of Astoria the kids were dancing this morning?
hello, im the guy that was explaining the meaning of the holiday and i just realized that i said the virgin mary was conceived..what i meant to say was that she conceived the son of god...i was under pressure on the camera...other than that everything else is correct..
