Former Port Authority Commissioner Describes The Disaster Plan
Former Port Authority Commissioner and senior fellow of the Homeland Security Department at Long Island University Bruce Blakeman spoke with John about the plan that was enacted upon yesterday's US Airways accident.
Blakeman deemed what followed the incident the "perfect rescue": "The airline went down at the right place and at the eright time for this time of the year...All of the private and governmental assets were in place."
According to him, incidents such as this, along with possible terrorist attacks and inclement weather are those which personnel such as the Port Authority, FDNY, the Coast Guard, and the FBI train to deal with on a daily basis. The training occurs in conjunction with New York Waterways and Circle Line. The well-coordinated rescue effort is a result of this thorough preparation.
