Celebrities Who Endorsed Obama

Celebrity endorsements go back to the presidential election of 1920, when actor Al Jolson organized Broadway stars in support of Republican candidate Warren Harding, who became the 29th president in a landslide victory.

For the Obama campaign, everyone from Oprah Winfrey to Scarlett Johansson helped to create a buzz for the now president-elect. Aimee Agresti from US Weekly magazine is here rounding up the top celebs who stumped for Obama.

OBAMA'S CELEB ENDORSEMENTS AND VIDEO AFTER THE JUMP...


SCARLETT JOHANSSON
The actress sang in the "Yes We Can" video, has recorded phone messages and campaigned in iowa. she joked she was "engaged to barack obama." In March's W magazine she repeated her support.


GEORGE CLOONEY
A self-proclaimed "Obama Guy," Clooney says the senator has the "aura of a rock star." He appeared with Obama at a panel on Darfur in 2006 and has often voiced support, although he says celebrity endorsements can do more harm than good.


BEN AFFLECK AND JENNIFER GARNER
Last year, Affleck told MSNBC "Hollywood loves Obama." He and his wife threw a fundraiser for Obama. Along with friend Matt Damon, Affleck was a judge for MoveOn.org's "Obama In 30 Seconds" competition.


THE KENNEDY FAMILY
Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, who is a candidate for the New York senate seat, caused a frenzy by penning "A President Like My Father" op-ed for The New York Times.


WILL.I.AM
The Black Eye Peas' singer recorded the songs "Yes We Can" and "We Are The Ones" based on Senator Obama's speeches. The songs' viral videos gave a platform for dozens of others celebrity fans.


OPRAH
Obama is the first candidate she has endorsed in her 25 year career. She's campaigned for him, with him and threw a celebrity fundraiser at her california home that collected an estimated $3 million.
