Analysis Of Barack Obama's Transition To The White House

Political analyst Nick Ragone stops by to talk about President-elect Barack Obama's cabinet picks, Hillary Clinton and what's in store during this transition period.
Ragone stated that the appointment of Timothy Geithner as treasury secretary and Lawrence Summers as economic adviser were very good choices. Geithner has worked with current Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke before. One concern for Obama about Summers is though he has experience, he has perhaps too much personality, which may be problematic.
As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton would become the face of foreign policy for the nation. The appointment of Clinton harkens President Abraham Lincoln's "team of rivals" because Vice President-elect Joe Biden's area of specialization is foreign policy. It will be interesting to see how Clinton, Biden and Obama work together.

And if Clinton is appointed and accepts the position of secretary of state, her New York Senate seat would be up for grabs. Ragone stated that Governor David Patterson would not appointment himself to the position. A few good picks for the spot are Andrew Cuomo and Nydia Velazquez.
Bill Richardson, another former presidential rival, is being considered for commerce secretary. He would be, essentially, the chief salesperson for the nation and would deal with foreign business.
Ragone stated that typically president-elects try to determine their cabinet appointments by early January, before Inauguration Day.

THis morning I decided to watch WPIX channel 11 in NY for a change. When I tuned in they were asking a trivia question about SEC Chair Tim Geithner. Answer: he went to Dartmouth. Even more interesting is that his Mother is a piano teacher in Larchmont. But what I really loved was the way the female reporter spoke: "I love that, his Mother is a little Piano teacher in Larchmont." As someone who made the choice to not ride a high horse or limousine each day to a job that is already done by thousands of people in this city alone (in my case Realtor, in hers, reporter) I resent the condescending attitude taken on air. I do not regret one minute spent raising my 3 accomplished children and guess what? Now that I am 50 and they are making their ways in the world, I have a job too!
I switched channels so fast that I didn't catch the sexist woman's name. I won't be tuning in again.
