Ryanair To Offer Cheap Trans-Atlantic Flights

ryanair1103.jpg

If you're looking to head across the pond, but don't want to pay expensive prices for a flight. Ryanair, notorious in the airline industry for their budget-priced flights, is planning to offer travellers very cheap flights across the pond for less than $13. The CW11's Tamen Fadal reported live from JFK Airport.

Flights from London and Dublin are expected to go to several popular American cities such as New York, Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary states that economy class tickets would cost 10 euros ($12.70) and business class seats would be "very expensive." Note that the cost does not include taxes or fees and the airline is expected to make an official announcement about the plan tomorrow.

According to the Associated Press, "O'Leary is quoted as saying 'there's always 10-15 percent who'll pay whatever it costs for a wide seat.'"

Candidates Have To Win Over New Yorkers To Win Election

NYS.jpg

Neither Senators John McCain nor Barack Obama can get to the White House without going through New York first. The state has polled double digits in Obama’s favor throughout this election. However, McCain vowed on Primary Day to make New York part of his national campaign.

In fact, McCain has strong ties to New York. He and Mayor Michael Bloomberg have been close since Bloomberg first ran for mayor seven years ago. And the mayor returned the favor this presidential election season.

McCain has made dozens of visits to New York City. He visited his daughter Megan while she was a student at Columbia University from 20003 to 2007 and gave the commencement speech two years ago. Columbia also happens to be Obama’s alma mater, where he graduated in 1983. Obama also lived in an apartment building on East 94th Street while he was an undergrad.

Like McCain, Obama returned to New York dozens of times since he declared his presidential candidacy 21 months ago. And it’s no secret he has a lot of supporters in the Big Apple. In fact, New Yorkers make the most “get out to vote” calls to other states from the Obama campaign's phone banks.

Race For The White House Ends Today

ragone1104b.jpg

The polls are open and Nick Ragone is back to reveal the last minutes standings in the race for the White House.

Referring to Senator John McCain, Ragone said that no candidate has come from so far behind and that this election is "not a nail-bitter." However, if McCain were to win, it would be a major upset.

The key states to look at are swing states Georgia, Virginia and Ohio. If Senator Barack Obama wins Georgia and Virginia, there is a very good chance he has won the entire election. If he wins Ohio, a state that usually goes to the Republican candidiate, it is a done deal, Ragone stated.

Most networks are causing a bit of controversy by not waiting for West Coast voters to cast their ballots. Instead, they will call the winner when they feel it is right.

It is also predicted that McCain will gain a larger popular vote than George W. Bush recieved when he was up for election. However, with that larger number, pundits say he will still lose.

NOTE: Polls are open from 6am to 9pm in New York; 6am to 8pm in New Jersey; and 6am to 8pm in Connecticut. Voters wearing candidate paraphernalia, such as T-shirts, hats or buttons, will be turned away from the polls. However, voters in line by closing time with ID will be able to cast their last-minute ballot.

Pundits Talk Local Election Smackdown

local1104.jpg

Mayoral candidate Bruce Blakeman and Assemblyman Rory Lancman faceoff and give their take on today's election matchup.

On the presidential election, both Blakeman and Lancman agreed that it looks like Senator Barack Obama may win the seat to the Oval Office. Senator John McCain will have to pull a hat trick, that is win the key three states Goergia, Virginia and Ohio, in order to win. They said if Obama wins Georgia and Virginia, Americans can call it an early night. However, if McCain wins these states, Americans will have to stay up late tonight to see the results. The polls in the two states closes tonight at 7pm EST.

Locally, Michael McMahon (Dem.) and Robert Stranieri (Rep.) are fighting for disgraced Staten Island Congressman Vito Fossella's seat. Blakeman felts that McMahon would win the seat and Stranieri would need a good turnout to win. However, Staten Island is typically a Republican-leaning county.

On Long Island, inclumbent candidiate Ceasar Trunzo (Rep.) is looking to keep his third Senate district seat to popular rival Brian Foley (Dem.). Lancman felt that from Long Island to Queens, there is wave of desire for change in the Democratic party, and the Foley may win the seat.

In another heated local Senate race, 35th District incumbent Andrea Stewart-Cousins (Dem.) is trying to keep her seat away from Republican candidate John Murtaugh. However, Lancman stated that Stewart-Cousins should have nothing to worry about because her party affiliation reflects her the majority of her constituents' party affiliation. It would be difficult for that seat top become Republican again, stated Lanceman.

How Barack Obama Will Affect The Stock Market

kelly1105.jpg

Kelly Evans from The Wall Street Journal will join us to discuss how President-elect Barack Obama will or will not affect the current market crisis.

Evans stated that the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 305 points yesterday -- its best Election Day performance ever. However, that can be attributed to traders finding relief in the fact that the presidential campaign finally came to a close. Evans said we may see more positive signals and falling volatility on the market.

Previous democratic candidates who were about to take office, such as Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy, have historically caused the market to rise. However, Evans stated that the levels are so low right now that a rebound may coincide with Obama's election, but cannot be completely attributed to him.

Presidential Election Wrap-Up

moment1105.jpg

Political analyst Nick Ragone was here to talk about last night's presidential election. As Ragone predicted, Barack Obama won the election by a landslide. He said we can expect to hear names for Obama's cabinet, such as Secretary of the Treasury. Ragone also stated that typically a president-elect's transition chief usually becomes his chief of staff.

What surprised Ragone was that John McCain won Missouri, and typically the candidate who wins this state also takes the White House. Ragone believes that McCain truly wants Obama to do well, and his consession speech was moving and emotional.

There was also talk about Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin running for office in 2012. However, she faces potentially stronger candidates like former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. She is also not guaranteed relection to her governor seat and she may also consider to run for the Senate.

The movie follows the iCarly team as they travel to Japan when iCarly is nominated for the iWeb Awards. At the hotel, they find out that they will be staying with Kyoko and Yuki, the stars of a competing webshow. Though Kyoko and Yuki give the iCarly team generous gifts like free passes to a spa and a shopping trip, the duo actually have their minds on sabotage.

They take Carly, Sam and Freddie in the middle of nowhere, and drive off, while Spencer and Mrs. Benson are trapped in seaweed. Although they are eventually able to overcome their situations and get to the iWeb Awards, they can't get in because the security guards don't speak English. Can iCarly still win the award?

Cosgrove is a California native who is best known for roles as Megan Parker on Drake and Josh, Summer Hathaway in School of Rock and, of course, as Carly Shay in iCarly.

Going Ga-Ga For Google's G1

tmobile1112.jpg

It's Google's answer to the call of the Apple iPhone. Now, everyone's going ga-ga for T-Mobile's G1 -- and for good reason. The G1 is not your ordinary phone. Specifically, Google’s Android -- a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications -- has made it easier for users to create their own applications,

Chris Rock, Target Give Back To Brooklyn Community

chris1113.jpg

NEW YORK - Christmas came a little bit early to the Bushwick section of Brooklyn Wednesday, for students and staff at the Salvation Army's Bushwick Community Center. The Bushwick Avenue center received an extreme makeover, which included a top of the line gymnasium and renovated library compliments of Target and Dell.

Comedian Chris Rock, along with wife Malaak were on hand at the unveiling. It was back in December when the Rocks joined forces with Target, the CW11 and the Salvation Army to present nearly 200 local children with $250 gift cards. A grant presented by Target at that event was used to renovate the center's outdated library and gymnasium.

The retail giant also announces plans for a $1 million donation to The Salvation Army to revitalize the organization's libraries, media centers and educational facilities across the country.

Rock, who as a child attended the center's after-school program and summer camp, recalled the many things he learned at the center.

"I played pool, some basketball. Got beat up too, a couple of times... Yeah learned it all here," he told the crowd that gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Following the ceremony, students were treated to music, treats, and Target gift bags.

Peter Facinelli Wants To Suck Your Blood In 'Twilight'

peter1119.jpg

Actor Peter Facinelli plays vampire Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the highly-anticipated movie Twilight, which premieres this Friday. Tune in tomorrow when Facinelli's co-star Taylor Lautner stops by the studio!

The movie is based on the popular book series of the same name by Stephenie Meyer. Fans are so excited for the movie that its soundtrack is sold out.

The film follows the first book and is about "Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is a clumsy, kind hearted teenager with a knack for getting into trouble. Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) is an intelligent, good looking vampire who is trying to hide his secret. Against all odds, the two fall in love but will a pack of blood thirsty trackers and the disapproval of their family and friends separate them?" according to IMDB.

Facinelli stated that when he read the script to Twilight, he fell in love with it because "it reminded me of the old movies when vampires were mysterious and had sexual undertones, and it was more of a beautiful vampire tale instead of the horror genre."

A native of Ozone Park, Queens, Facinelli's other acting credits include The Scorpion King, Six Feet Under, Fastlane, Damages and An Unfinished Affair, where he met his wife Jennie Garth who is reprising her role as Kelly Taylor on the CW's 90210.

Totally Tamsen: Singapore Street Food

Singapore’s famed street food has often been replicated in the U.S. but seldom with favorable results. Tamsen gets a taste.

Singapore’s street food is an amalgamation of cultures (Chinese, Indian, Malay, Peranakan/Eurasian), a testament to the multi-faceted dynamics of the country and its food culture.

Street food recipes are passed down from generation to generation and in most cases the hawkers tend to specialize on one particular dish serving hundreds of dishes every day, a staggering output considering the high-level of consistency they produce for each dish.

Singapore’s street food scene can be found in many heritage districts such as historic Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam but also near towering skyscrapers and commercial and residential areas.

Ntina Zatse Of Queens Is The CW11 Chef For A Day Contest Winner

ntina1a.jpg

We shared our family recipes with you last week and asked you to share one with us in our "Chef For A Day" contest. Tons of CW11 viewers responded, but we could only pick one.

Middle Village, Queens resident Ntina Tomaras Zatse is the winner and she will be showing us how to cook her Classic Greek Roasted Chicken With Lemon and Oregano!

And Channel 11 has been an important part of her life. "WPIX/CW11 have been with me since childhood. From the days after school when I would watch the games you would have on and I would be shouting “PIX” at the same time as with that lucky kid. Or, every Christmas with the Yule Log, that made us feel special. When you announced you were to start a Morning News Program, I was glad. Now I have a matching set of morning and evening news programs," explained Zatse.

And she's been cooking since she was a child too. Growing up, it was her responsibility to have dinner ready for everyone in her family. And this recipe "was the classic meal I would serve my family back then. Now, that I am all grown up and have a family of my own I can serve the same classic meal."

Analysis Of Barack Obama's Transition To The White House

ragone1124.jpg

Political analyst Nick Ragone stops by to talk about President-elect Barack Obama's cabinet picks, Hillary Clinton and what's in store during this transition period.

Ragone stated that the appointment of Timothy Geithner as treasury secretary and Lawrence Summers as economic adviser were very good choices. Geithner has worked with current Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke before. One concern for Obama about Summers is though he has experience, he has perhaps too much personality, which may be problematic.

As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton would become the face of foreign policy for the nation. The appointment of Clinton harkens President Abraham Lincoln's "team of rivals" because Vice President-elect Joe Biden's area of specialization is foreign policy. It will be interesting to see how Clinton, Biden and Obama work together.

Even with his success today, Iglesias says his greatest accomplishment was signing his first record contract at 18.

LIRR Commuters May Have PM Delays

lirr1124.jpg

Long Island Railroad passengers can expect extra cancellations, schedule changes and delays this morning due to yesterday's train derailment. The MTA stated, "The Monday AM Rush service plan includes cancellation of 12 westbound AM rush trains. Help Me Howard: Concert Tickets Catastrophe

Last summer, a Bronx woman bought two tickets to a rap concert at the Utopia Paradise Theater for $110.

But on the night of the show, everyone was told that the concert had been cancelled. Instead of being reimbursed, everyone was told to hold onto their tickets and they'd be notified when the show would be re-scheduled.

Now months later, with no word of a new concert date, when the woman contacted the Paradise Theater for a refund, she was told she had to get it from the concert promoter and when she contacted the promoter, he said she had to get it from the theater, so that's when she contacted Help Me Howard.

Deep Frying Turkey With Bass Pro Shops

turkey1126.jpg

How many times have you sliced into a bone-dry turkey and wished for something much juicer without a lot of trouble? We’ll as strange as it may first sound, try deep-frying your bird instead – you’ll be amazed!

Deep fried turkey is moist and not at all greasy. That’s because the hot oil nearly instantly seals the bird so juices don’t get out and oil doesn’t get in. It’s much like searing a steak on the grill. Another relatively new and popular way to fix your turkey is cooking with infrared heat and it doesn’t involve any oil at all.

Here to explain are turkey expert Jimmy O'Brien and Steve Hargis of Bass Pro Shops.

We talked about how he became a lawyer and his transition to becoming a crime fiction author, his rough life growing up hanging out with gang-bangers on the streets of Chicago, and how the book almost didn't exist. In fact, the only copy of it was lost in Tower 2 during the World Trade Center attacks.
