Author and political expert Nick Ragone reviewed the last night's presidential debate for us.
He said that there was no clear winner of the debate. Senator John McCain did not have a "knock-out punch," but his performance last night will help him in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. Ragone also said poll margins between McCain and Senator Barack Obama may close.
McCain was also on the attack. He spoke about Obama's relationship with William Ayers, ACORN and referenced a conversation Obama had with "Joe the Plumber" -- a man who he met during the campaign trail.
However, according to Ragone, Obama looked presidential last night and he has held a double digit lead against McCain in polls. Obama did not make any jaffes last night.
Moderator Bob Schaffer did a very good job as well. Ragone said he asked excellent questions and follow-ups. As a result, he was able to drive an interesting debate. Ragone, along with other political pundits, agree that last night's presidnetial debate was the best of the three.

Football fans, two great DVD's are hitting store shelves: Manning vs. Manning and Hellfighters. Grab your helmet and be prepared to see twice the action from inside the quarterback pocket in Manning vs. Manning. Its an unprecedented look into the renowned football family.
Out of the 305 public high schools in New York City, 43 of them had football teams in 2003 —but none of were in Harlem. That is until Doug Ferguson, a former wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, organized the Harlem Hellfighters, a gritty, relentless team that found itself a long way from Friday night lights. ESPN Home Entertainment, in conjunction with Genius Products, captures the story in Hellfighters.
A true story, Hellfighters is a film about the heroic trials and triumphs that a group of young men in Harlem face while fighting their way to success. Wise to the fact that football would provide a constructive after school activity, as well as valuable lessons in pride and character, NFL star and former Dallas Cowboy Doug Ferguson took the challenge of showing a group of tough, ambitious, but discouraged teenagers, that dreams do come true. Exposing the benefit of activism, the film is emotionally overwhelming—a universal story of positivity and resolve.
Both DVDs are available in stores now and can also be found at www.espnshop.com. They retail for about $19.95.
Comptroller Bill Thompson Talks About Job Loss and NYC's Economy

Comptroller Bill Thompson stopped by our studios to talk about the job losses in New York City. His office estimated that over the next two years 165,000 jobs would be loss. This number is up from their July estimate of 85,000 jobs loss over the same period of time because of the economic crisis on Wall Street and the credit crunch.
Thompson said that New York City has seen severe job loss before. In the 1990s, 35,000 jobs were loss and in the early 2000s, when the dot-com bubble burst, between 20,000 to 25,000 jobs were loss as well.
The way for New York City to bounce back from this economic down turn, Thompson said, is for the federal government's bailout package to kick in and for confidence to be restored.
Thompson is also a candidate for the 2009 mayoral race. On the topic of extending term limits, he believes that it is wrong for 51 members of the City Council to vote on changing the law instead of city voters. Thompson continued that the the City Council is taking away the voice of New York City voters, who in 1993 and 1996 voted against changing the term limit law. He said that he would not hesitate to run if Mayor Michael Bloomberg ran for a third term.

We're starting a new segment here on the CW11 Morning News called "The Dumbest Idea."
We've been mulling through all the stories we told you about this week - looking for whoever made the dumbest choice and these guys take the cake.
This week's Dumbest Idea goes to the AIG executives who spent $86,000 on a partridge hunting trip - just days after asking the government for a $37 billion loan!
Cash-strapped AIG says the annual trip was planned months before it got the loan. But you'd think, since the company needed to ask the government for money, it would at least cancel the trip.
New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo warned AIG that he could revoke the loan. So the company has now called off some 160 other conferences and events and cancelled a multi-million dollar severance package for its outgoing chief financial officer.
What do you think? Leave a comment to rate the AIG executives on their dumb idea - and tell us who you think had the dumbest idea this week.

Author and political expert Nick Ragone will be in house to talk about the Bradley Factor and explain what roll will race play once the curtain closes in the voting booth.
Named after popular Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, an African-American who was running against the incumbent George Deukmejian in the 1982 California gubernatorial election. Bradley was the favorite to win the election in the polls, but Deukmenjian won by a narrow margin. The Bradley Factor refers to voters saying one thing to pollsters, but doing something completely different in the polls.
Although Senator Barack Obama is leading by double digits in the polls, if there is a Bradley Factor, he may end up losing -- or winning -- by a narrow margin.
However, Ragone says that with only two weeks left before the presidential election, Senator John McCain will need an October surprise, like a Rev. Wright situation, to help him tip the scales and win.

This would provide unemployment relief and provide jobs for the working class.

But when Shirley Turner was released on bail in Canada and was given custody of Zachary while awaiting extradition to the U.S., the film’s focus shifted to Zachary’s grandparents, David & Kathleen Bagby, and their desperate efforts to win custody of the boy from the woman they knew had murdered their son.
